Finding Ways to Remain Grounded

Hi friends. Wow, what a wild year the past few weeks has been, amirite? With news developing literally eVeRy SeCoNd, it’s been hard to keep up. Similarly, it’s all felt like a blur in my mind. My husband and I started working remotely last week, and while I thoroughly enjoy his company, we’ve needed to maintain personal space for our own sanity.

Simply, I wanted to write this post to check in with y’all. How are you doing? How are you handling all of this? I’ve started incorporating new habits into my daily routine (which tbh should be my norm anyways) in hopes to check in with myself.

You are not alone, and we will make it through this to the other side.

Here are some techniques to keep grounded:

Keep a gratitude list (or write in a gratitude journal)

It’s freeing, really. Considering recently we spend all day consuming shit news about the world, we can become lost in the negativity. Pick up a journal, or simply write on a piece of paper, and catalogue the GRATITUDE you have in your life. Thankful for your spouse/partner/roommate? Write about them. How can you show them appreciation during this time? How does it feel to be appreciated? Choose something in the very room you are sitting – what brings you joy here? Describe it.

Here is a really great list of mindfulness prompts

… and here is a list of gratitude prompts

Shop your bookcase (& utilize free ebook rentals!)

You heard me. We all have books that sit in a pile and collect dust until the next time we find a shiny new book in B&N (or, let’s be honest, the used bookstore down the street you just can’t resist). I do this soooooo often. I will buy 7 books for $35 at a local used bookstore (or online at bookoutlet.com), I’ll be SO excited to add them to my bookshelf, and then guess what? I forget. lol. This down time is a great moment to shop your stash and pick up something you haven’t read.

ALSO! My good friend over at https://simplylizlemonade.com lent me this sweet inside scoop. You can download the Libby app, connect it to your local library card, and rent books straight to your Kindle (or however you read online) FOR FREE. YOU HEARD ME. Here is Liz’s blog post about how to best maximize the Libby app

Get creative – maybe pick up a new hobby

Ever wanted to draw, paint, write poetry, or anything in general you’ve wanted to create? There is no time like the present, my friend. I’ve recently picked up coloring and let me TELL YOU – it’s therapeutic. Highly suggest investing in a pack of markers, crayons, or colored pencils and hopping to it.

I love it most in the middle of a hectic day (working from home) where I get sucked into being a slave to my laptop. I take a breather, shut down email, and simply COLOR. It forces me to get out of my head and focus on something other than wanting to bop my colleagues in the head.

I’ve been grabbing my coloring pages from my FAVORITE stress journal ever, so I’ll link it here.

Stop scrolling on tiktok and do a home workout

jk obvi I don’t care if you scroll on tiktok for hours (same here honestly), but take 30 mins and get moving! I love this free HIIT workout and it gets me sweating out all the bad energy and toxins. It’s only 30 mins long and you will not regret an ounce of it. Get up, get moving, get some steps in and just sweat it out babe. You’ll feel much better after getting your blood pumping.

Also! Whitney Simmons has some of the BEST free home workouts there are. Check out this one

Two final easy tricks

Get dressed for “work” (doesn’t have to be work appropriate lol)

Yesterday I wore ripped jeans and felt like a badass. It makes a difference!

Inhale, now exhale

Don’t forget to breathe, my love. All things, both good and bad, will pass.

Xoxo,
KS Loves

I love to meet new people!
