EMPTIES (drugstore + high end)

WASSUP. I usually do my empties posts in video form nowadays, but my channel is turning into an empties post every other video lmao – I’m not having any of that. I want variety over there, so I’m bringing the empties post HERE. Why? Because I know we all love a good empties review blog post.

Below you’ll find TEN products I have completely emptied and are going into the trash as we speak. That means I’ve tried the entire packaging. I have full reviews, some of which I’ll rave about… others, meh. Let’s dive in.

Let’s start with mascaras, because I have a fuck ton of ’em.

  • Essence Volume Stylist 18 hr Lash Extension
Of the two drugstore mascaras, this one is going to be my favorite. I’d highly recommend this over the lash princess (see below), as you can achieve feathery spread lashes that will last throughout the day.
The best part? It costs $4.99
  • Essence Lash Princess Volume
This mascara I could pass on. I likely won’t repurchase. It was very liquid-y, which more often than not led to goopy, chunky lashes that didn’t spread nicely. If you’re looking for thicker lashes, you might like this. I prefer mine spread evenly and full of volume.
  • Lancome Monsieur Big
YOOOOOOOOOOOO this mascara is FIRE. I love it so much. Like, false lashes worthy. Use a lash curler before going in with this mascara and you will boost your look x 100 – I swear.
Better yet, the travel size is $12.00 and it’ll last you awhile. Run!
  • Clinique High Impact
I wasn’t a fan of this. Just didn’t impress me. The formula is very lightweight; if you’re into super natural (barely there) mascara, you may like this! For me, it wasn’t enough volume.

Moving on, shall we? Next up, powders…

  • Coty Airspun loose setting powder
THE GOAT. My favorite. Hands down. The best powder to *blot* the earth. Lol. ALSO – it’s $5.97 on Amazon. SO like, hello. It sets makeup incredibly, does not move foundation underneath. Keeps me matte throughout the day. HIDES my pores entirely. Banging product.
The only con: you’ll smell like your grandma’s perfume from 1954.
  • IT Cosmetics bye bye pores pressed powder
This was not a favorite for me. I’d say hard pass on this one. There was nothing special about it and I don’t feel a need to spend $29.00 on a powder that didn’t “wow” me. If anything, the Coty airspun blurs my pores + stays matte WAY more efficiently.

Two more makeup-related products.

  • Tonya Crooks TheBrowGal instatint brow gel
I actually really loved this product. It made it SO easy to define my brows. Quick swipe swipe, and you had some pigment (for a badass brow), plus it was easy and not messy! I’m not good with pencils or pomades so this is a bomb product for me. I’d use it daily. I also don’t think $22 is unreasonable for this product. 10/10 recommend!
  • Soho buffing powder brush
This is my ALL TIME favorite bronzer brush. I picked it up on a whim at Marshall’s or TJ Maxx years ago. It was time to retire it. Lol. It’s a solid brush, but it’ll definitely shed as you wash. Doesn’t phase me as it’s the PERFECT bronzing brush lmao. I’ll keep an eye in the future at TJ Maxx’s bc I’d love to snag it again. Otherwise, it’s available on Amazon. Distributes products well and made it look like I was a bronzing PROFESSIONAL. Super easy to use.

Lastly, skincare!

  • Origins energy boosting gel moisturizer
This was a SUPER fresh and hydrating moisturizer. I am a big fan. I’d consider buying this (if I want to spend a little extra ca$h money) because I do find the quality is THERE with this product. Origins does skincare right and ever since my friend got me started on them, I’m hooked.
  • Alba Botanica hawaiian oil-free moisturizer
I am a MEGA fan of this moisturizer. If you are ballin’ on a budget and want a super rich and lush moisturizer (daytime or nighttime), this is your option. My esthetician recommended this to me when my skin was going through it, and I’ve never looked back since. It’s an affordable option with skin benefits and hydration that sinks into your skin. I’ve purchased around 5 of these at this point. When I run out… I notice a difference in my skin! It’s parched without it. Big fan.

So those are all of my recent empties – I live for a good empties post! I hope you enjoyed and found a review of something you were interested in. Let me know your thoughts. Have you tried any of the above? I’m v curious to hear from you.

Empties/Throw-A-Ways Part #3

“I must be using a lot of makeup to be on my third empties post.”

IMG_20171218_194449

What’s up, bloggers?! I’m back with another “empties” post detailing some products I have used up over the last couple months and my final thoughts/review of each one.

As always, the big question stands: Would I repurchase, yes or no?

See a product above you’ve been wondering about? Well, I’ve used the entire bottle so you can find my thorough review below.

First up, two mascaras:

IMG_20171218_194022

  • Too Faced Better Than Sex retailing for $23
This mascara is phenomenal. Personally, I think $23 is a lot to pay for a mascara considering you have a dupe for this which is the L’Oreal Lash Paradise
retailing for $9.99 at the drugstore. However, the Too Faced travel size of this mascara can last you a 1-2 months and only cost you $12. It has a fat wand that distributes mascara plentifully and creates full, butterfly-looking lashes.
Would I repurchase? Yeah, probably. Depends on if I’m willing to drop a pretty penny when there are more affordable options out there. But, affordable options or not, this mascara is worth the money.

IMG_20171218_194051

  • The Balm Mad Lash retailing for $18
I had such a love-hate relationship with this mascara.
PERKS: it makes your lashes look nice and spider-y and distributes product v evenly, also adding length.
CONS: I hate this wand, so much. I would say 4/5 times using this product left me with a clenched eye and mascara on my bottom lid from wincing after poking myself. It is so easy to touch this wand to your eyeball and doesn’t seem user friendly to me. It’s also very stiff, so on that 1/5 times I’d get it right, it would still scratch my lids in an uncomfortable way.
Would I repurchase? No, and I wouldn’t recommend this to a friend either.

IMG_20171218_194146

Next, two foundations:

  • Maybelline Fit Me Matte + Poreless retailing for $7.99
This foundation lasted me a really long time, and I loved that about it. I also loved the staying power, coverage, and shade selection. Maybelline does such a great job at shade ranges, and I can appreciate that. The coverage on this foundation is surprisingly good, and can be built upon itself.
It does dry kind of quickly, so I would work with half of my face at a time. It does give you a poreless and matte complexion, but I would still get a little greasy by that 3 o’clock hour at work.
    Would I repurchase? Yes, 100%.

IMG_20171218_194010

  • Maybelline Fit Me Dewy + Smooth retailing for $7.99
I also really loved this foundation. For the dryer months (winter and when I’m dry in the summer from suntanning) this foundation is a lifesaver. The matte + poreless foundation would look dry on my skin if I didn’t have a solid moisturized base to my face. This, however, was smooth as could be even when I wasn’t working with a hydrated base.
    Would I repurchase? Yes, definitely.

IMG_20171218_194001

Lastly, two hair products:

  • Not Your Mother’s Clean Freak Dry Shampoo retailing for $5.99
This dry shampoo was actually my first ever try at dry shampoo Image result for surprised emoji
Crazy, I know. Now I can’t imagine a life without it.
But it would good. Was it great? No. Did I find something better? Yes. Batiste takes the cake for the best affordable dry shampoo. The Not Your Mother’s wasn’t bad, it just didn’t perform as well as the Batiste ones I have since tried.
    Would I repurchase? Nah.

IMG_20171218_193938

  • Pureology Strength Cure Shampoo retailing for $28 (8.5 oz)
This shampoo is so expensive, and I feel like I didn’t get the results I wanted for the price I paid. The thing that bothered me the most about this shampoo was the lack of suds to feel like my hair was thoroughly clean. I felt like I was using more than I needed to in order to clean my hair. With that being said, this shampoo lasted me a long time (roughly 8 months) so I’d say you get your money’s worth.
Maybe the next time you’re at your salon you can ask them to use this in your hair and see what you think.
Would I repurchase? No. Recently I’ve been loving (and have since repurchased) the Paul Mitchell Forever Blonde shampoo. More affordable and smells better/I see better results.

IMG_20171218_193951

So those are my empties! Is there anything here you agree with me about? Should I give something another try if I decided not to repurchase it? Let me know your thoughts below!

Empties/Throw-A-Ways Part #2

“Wow I use a ton of makeup, didn’t I just do a post like this?!”

IMG_20170926_185530.jpg

BACK at it again, folks 😉

It’s time for another segment of “Will I repurchase?” or “Why did I toss it?” I think these posts are super helpful to others! It shows you actually put time and effort into a product and for some reason or another loved it (considering you finished it) or hated it (enough to throw it away).

This is different than a first impression, this is a bonafide REVIEW, ladies.

First up!

  1. it Cosmetics Superhero mascara retails for $24.00
THIS. MASCARA. IS. AMAZING. Admittedly, it’s one of the first high-end mascaras I’ve ever used! And it did not disappoint. This is, hands down, a holy grail. It gives volume, length, and adds “ba da BAM!” to your lashes.
    Would I repurchase? Absolutely.
  2. Model Co Power Lash mascara retails for $9.00 (travel size)
I was not a fan of this mascara. I used it up on weekdays for work because it added something to my eyes to wake me up. On weekends? Forget about it – never reached for it.
    Would I repurchase? No.
    IMG_20170926_185411
  3. CVS Calming Cleansing towelettes retail for $6.59
These were dry, which I suppose is to be expected from a store brand makeup wipe. I’d rather use Neutrogena or the Simple micellar water wipes (which Kathleen Lights raves about). Anyways, since they weren’t wet enough, they tugged a lot at my skin, which caused an opposite sensation than “calming.” Instead, I was left with a red face and had to work twice as hard to remove all traces of makeup.
Would I repurchase? No, but maybe in a pinch.
    IMG_20170926_185220
  4. Rimmel London Stay Matte pressed powder in sandstorm retails for $5.49
I LOVE this pressed powder! Since they have a *semi-pathetic* shade range, you can at least get a small amount of coverage from this powder if used with a sponge. I typically swirl my brush into it to set my face, especially the areas where I get the oiliest *cough, t-zone, cough*. But it does a phenomenal job at keeping me matte for longer than usual. I like that it’s small enough to take on the road too.
BE FOREWARNED: it breaks easily! Don’t be throwing it around in your bag.
Would I repurchase? Yes! And I already have!
    IMG_20170926_185241
  5. American Eagle rollerball fragrance retails for $14.95
I don’t remember which scent this is in, but I loved this! Rollerballs are so convenient to carry in your purse for touch-ups on the go. I remember being pleasantly surprised with this scent and would 100% buy another AEO rollerball. Sometimes they’re on sale for just $10, which is completely worth it.
    Would I repurchase? Yes.
    IMG_20170926_185320
  6. Caudalie Moisturizing Sorbet Cream retails for $39.00
This moisturizer was good, I’ll give it that. It has a “cream-to-gel” formula that instantly melts into your skin. It left my face slightly tacky for a good foundation application, and the scent wasn’t bad either. However. However. I would never spend $40 on this. I will continue you buy my Garnier gel moisturizer for a fraction of the price. It provides the same moisture my skin needs while maintaining a lightweight feel that doesn’t add any extra shine to my t-zone.
    Would I repurchase? No.
    IMG_20170926_185305

So that’s everything! What are your thoughts? Have you emptied any of the same or similar products? Did you feel the same, or nah? Let me know – I’d love to discuss them some more.

EMPTIES/THROW-A-WAYS Segment!

“I know everyone loves a good “empties” post – like, will I repurchase? Read to find out!”

Over the last month or so, I’ve had a paper bag below my beauty vanity to throw out items I am just not using or have used up! I always love when bloggers/YouTubers create “empties” content because that means they have fully invested in a product and are ready to give some kickass reviews.

The main question I am going to answer is: Will I repurchase? Because, let’s be honest, if I’m not willing to repurchase then I’m obviously not that into it.

Product #1: Garnier Refreshing Gel-Cream
I emptied this baby in like 6 weeks – IT’S SO GOOD. I have a full review at the link above and would highly recommend checking it out if you’re interested in finding a moisturizer alternative. It’s great for the oily-skinned folks like myself. V lightweight and a super affordable option.
Will I repurchase? YES! And I have already done so.

IMG_20170809_195711

Product #2: Ulta Mineral Bronzer
I can’t find this on Ulta’s website anymore, so I’m assuming they did away with this formula. It was glittery and pretty orange. I gave up on it when I transitioned to my Physician’s Formula Butter Bronzer.
I do see Ulta has a new matte bronzer on their website so maaaybe I’ll give it a try next time I’m perusing the makeup aisle.
Will I repurchase? No, there are much better options.

IMG_20170809_200025

Product #3: COVERGIRL Outlast Lip Color
These are actually really great lip stains! I’m not sure if CoverGirl still sells them in drugstores/Walmarts, but I remember really loving this in college, and I have a hometown bestie to thank for that (s/o to you Lauren).
Will I repurchase? If they have something similar, yes, I would!

IMG_20170809_195939

Product #4: Biore Charcoal Pore Strips
I. don’t. like. these. The original pore strips by Biore are great and I will definitely purchase those again, but the charcoal ones make no difference in my t-zone’s oil production and don’t stick to my nose properly. I have a “Charcoal vs. The Original” pore strips debate at the link above if you’re interested!
Will I repurchase? No.

IMG_20170809_200043

Product #5: e.l.f Undereye Setting Powder
This is a THROWAWAY for me. I’ve heard a lot of beauty YouTubers recommend this, but I cannot get on board. It was sparkly, and I’m not about glitter and sparkles under my eyes. The only pro about this product was that it cost $3.00.
Will I repurchase? No.

Product #6: Maybelline Colossal Mascara
This was a good product, and I am a fan of Maybelline’s mascaras. However, now that I know so much more about affordable options that are dupes for high end brands (*cough, cough* here’s to you, L’Oréal Lash Paradise), I don’t think I will be repurchasing this.
Will I repurchase? Probably not, but it was good while I used it.

IMG_20170809_200116

So that’s it for this empties segment! Is this something that interests anyone else? I’d love to know so I can continue to collect empty products. I know everyone loves a juicy review.

The Best of IPSY

“I will continue to repurchase and repurchase.. and repurchase these items.”

These are my tried and true, my most reliable products I’ve received from Ipsy. These are also the products Ipsy has successfully sold me on, which I imagine is their game plan considering they offer monthly discounts for certain beauty brands they promote.

There are a mix of drugstore/high end in this round-up, which I think my readers will appreciate. Some prices are low whereas others take a few paychecks to save up (unless you’re like me and willing to wait for a holiday and a Sephora gift card).

Enough about the intro.. let’s get into this!

  1. Tarte Maracuja Oilfull size retails for $48.00
This was an absolute sell for me. I wholeheartedly love this product and received the travel size in my December 2016 Ipsy bag. I have used this product mostly every night since I received it (probably 90% of the time), and am just now halfway through it. The travel size retails at $15, well worth spending your money. This oil soothes, hydrates, and balances out my skin in ways I didn’t know possible. Full review here if you want to know all of the benefits I’ve seen and how to use it!

    img_20170115_142756

  2. Dr. Brandt Microdermabrasionfull size retails for $79.00
It pains me to include this product because.. well.. $$$ but, I simply must! Dr. Brandt knows what the f*#k they’re doing. I have not found another exfoliator on the market with such finely milled exfoliating beads as this one. The light peppermint scent is enough to relax and soothe your mind. After washing off this product, you’ll notice the softness in your skin as it seems the exfoliator doubles as a hydrator. I love the feeling. I’m not sure that there is a travel size, but if there is that is what I’ll be repurchasing b/c a little goes a long way – and I don’t know that I’ll ever be able to justify $80 on a skincare product (LOL).

    IMG_20170326_210008

  3. IT Cosmetics Superhero mascarafull size retails at $24.00
Let me just say this: you can get a sample size of this mascara to try at Ulta for $10 in the checkout aisle. Let me then say this: do it!! You pay almost $10 or more at the drugstore for mascara anyways, so spend the $10 on a high-end brand in Ulta that has a decent amount of product as well. This mascara does the best job at creating a look full of luxurious lashes. When I wear this mascara, my eyes make a statement. I can’t get enough of it.

  4. Verb Ghost Oilfull size retails  at $14.00
This product is amazing, smells amazing, and has an amazing price point. I do not try hair oils often (because, like most, I’m afraid it’s going to leave my hair greasy) but alas this hair oil has stuck with me. I continually reach for this after washing my hair to disperse through my ends. The light scent is very nice and feminine, but not overwhelming. This product does a great job at sealing in moisture and repairing damaged hair. I will certainly repurchase once I finish the tube.

  5. NYX Butter Lipstickfull size retails at $6.00
This is one of the creamiest lipstick formulas. I’m also a huge fan of the e.l.f. moisturizing lipsticks ($3 and decent wear time), but there’s something about these butter lipsticks that are so soothing on the lips. It’s like giving your lips a drink of water. That being said, they are pretty slippery, so application takes a bit longer than slapping on a liquid lippie, but it’s well worth the time for the color payoff and hydrating formula.

  6. Any of the lip scrubs I’ve received. I am totally new to this type of product and I LOVE it! I’m loving exfoliating my lips before slapping on a hydrating lip balm.
Jelly Pong Pong Coffee + Coconut lip scrub ($19.00) this scrub has a little bit of a “wet” texture to it. It’s less gritty than your typical lip scrubs, and might be best for the people just starting out exfoliating their lips.
Indi Beauty Buttercream lip scrub ($11.99) this scrub is a lot grittier and definitely does a great job at exfoliating your lips prior to moisturizer. It primes them perfectly.

    untitled63

So that’s a round-up of my all time favorite Ipsy products thus far! Do some of these match your list of favs? What have you gone out and repurchased? I want to know!
