My FIRST Boxycharm Review

“I have a new reason to write about makeup on a monthly basis.”

IMG_20171119_134117_904

So I tried Ipsy for a year – loved it. Have nothing but positive things to say about it. My “problem,” or rather, reason for switching over was mainly to receive full-size products. Having samples is fabulous, don’t get me wrong. Small samples of high-end makeup is perfect for experimentation before you splurge.

HOWEVER.

However… I was extremely excited to sign up for Boxycharm. I do want to put it out there, it took about 5 weeks to get off the waitlist. Based on my experience, you can’t just sign up and expect that month’s box. Might not be the case for everyone, but that’s just what happened to me.

Boxycharm is a box of 4-5 full-sized makeup products and costs you $21/month. Most of the time a single item will already cover the cost of the box, but if not then two products will definitely exceed the $21 you pay.

I received a beautiful full-size eyeshadow palette, setting mist, lipstick, travel set of four eyeshadow brushes, and three lips masks. GREAT brands too, by the way! Luxie and Cover Fx are pretty popular atm.

So let’s get to the good stuff, what did I think?!

  1. Winky Lux Kitten Eyeshadow Palette – retails for $25.00

This palette is awesome. I really like it. The quality is there, and you better believe the pigment is too. I really like the color selection, and think you can get a nice combination of natural and bold looks with this palette. There is a perfect shade for me to set my eyeshadow primer, as well as several darker colors to bolden an eye look.

IMG_20171203_211842

The metallic gold shade (second row, right-hand side) is out of this world – see swatches below. This 9-shade palette has a crease shade, deeper colors for the outer-v and crazy pops of color with the gold and blue. Everything blends incredibly well and creates a flawless finish on your eye look.

2. Cover Fx Illuminating Setting Spray – retails for $31.00

IMG_20171203_212643

You must shake this up first. I repeat: you need to shake this. Otherwise, you will have a pile of glitter on your face. Attractive, right? No, not unless you’re trying to look like a New Year’s Eve explosion at midnight.

With that being said, the mist on this is extremely fine – and I really like that. No one really wants a squirt to the face. This lays nicely on the skin and does give a dewy glow. I’m particularly oily, so I’d only use this before going out at night when I won’t be wearing makeup for a full day.

3. Luxie Brush Travel Quad – I can’t find this on their website

IMG_20171203_212616

These are fabulous. I can’t say enough positive things about Luxie’s brushes. They blend nicely, travel easily, and don’t disappoint. Ever. You can tell in the picture above that I get good use out of them (yes, they need cleaned).

4. KNC All Natural Collagen Infused Lip Mask (set of 3) – a set of 5 retails for $25.00

These.. okay these. I would not recommend. I didn’t notice a difference, they are SO BIG over my mouth and chin, and the tingly sensation skeeved me out. For $5 a pop and no real improvements in the moisture/plumpness of my lips, they’re not worth it in my opinion.

5. Laq A & Co Cloud Lips in Storm – retails for $17.00

IMG_20171203_212711

This is a gorgeous stormy shade of a deep reddish purply plum. Does that make sense? Okay good. This is super comfortable to wear on the lips but I highly recommend a lip liner underneath. She is not easy to apply without one and you need to draw a line before you color inside, capisce??? I like this though; it transfers, but the color is gorgeous and well worth it.

Would look fabulous paired with a vampy eye look.

IMG_20171209_145454.jpg

And that’s everything for my first Boxycharm box! I LOVE IT ALL. I’m very happy with my first box. I could leave out the lip masks and still be completely satisfied with the remaining four products for $21/month.

Have you tried Boxycharm or Ipsy? Do you have a preference? Is Boxycharm worth the extra $10/month for you? I’d love to know!

April/May IPSY Bag Review

“Two bag reviews in one post what the…”

I know. How TF did I miss April’s Ipsy bag review? Well, my friends, I have had a lot going on! LIFE was ringing at my doorbell.

But who cares about that – surely not my readers stopping by to check out some Ipsy bag reviews 😉

Combining two bag reviews into one post has the potential to make for a very long read, and that’s not what I’m about – so, here comes the mega summary.

APRIL’S BAG
*disclaimer: I don’t have pictures of these products,
but feel free to see my review of each item below!*

 1. Hanalei Aloe Soothing Gel ($30 full size) – this cooling gel was.. ok. Honestly, it felt exactly like putting aloe vera gel onto my skin. That’s right, the same aloe vera you can buy in the store for like $5.00. The Hanalei brand is pretty sticky when applied to the face, similar to regular aloe gel.
Bottom line: would I buy this from Hanalei? No, definitely not.

2. Ciate London Bamboo Bronzer ($28 full size) – this bronzer is nice! Definitely not a bad product, but nothing outstanding either. It blends nicely and the color selection was great for my skin tone (which is very light). Do I think it beats Physician Formula’s Butter Bronzer for $15? Absolutely not.
Bottom line: would I buy this from Ciate? No. You can get a similar bronzer at a more affordable price.

3. Hey Honey Besame Mucho lip balm ($14 full size) – I was not a fan of this lip balm. There are waaaay better lip balms on the market at a fraction of the price. When I put this on my lips, it felt slippery and almost slimy. This did not have a nice thick coating of moisture, as other lip balms do.
Bottom line: would I buy this from Hey Honey? No, but I would recommend Hanalei Lip Treatment or the Milani Oil Infused Lip Treatment as a great alternative!

4. Luxie Beauty Precision Foundation brush ($23) – I love these brushes! They never disappoint. Super soft, adorable colors (which make a great statement on any vanity), and always provide a great application.
Bottom line: would I buy other brushes from Luxie Beauty? Certainly!

5. Elizabeth Mott Show me your Glow Shimmer Shadow & Highlighter ($25 full size) – this is a fabulous product. The shade of highlight is spot on and the glow up is real.
Bottom line: would I buy this from Elizabeth Mott? I am considering it! For the size of the product, I think $25 is more on the reasonable side of pricing. Will continue to use my sample and mull it over.

MAY’S BAG

4

1. Beauty & Pin-ups Fearless Hair Masque ($32 full size) – I really love this hair mask! It is luxurious, the scent is delicious but not overwhelming, and it left me with incredibly soft/silky hair. I felt like I had taken a trip to the spa.
Bottom line: would I buy this from Beauty & Pin-ups? If I was looking to splurge and gift myself a little prezzy, I most definitely would. I see this as worth the $$

5

2. Caked Makeup Lip Fondant in Low Key ($16 full size – and I think we received full size!) – this matte lip cream was awesome! Dried down completely matte, passed the kiss-proof test, and wore very well. It took a couple swipes to get the color looking opaque, but once you built it up it looked like a dream. Enjoyable cupcake scent as well.
Bottom line: would I buy this from Caked Makeup? For the price point, yes!!

3. Jelly Pong Pong Supercharged Intense Eyeshadow ($22.95) – this eyeshadow surprised me! I liked it a lot more than I thought I would, and the color payoff is very real. Pleasantly surprised with this brand, as usually I’m a little “meh” about their items. Not this time, happy to have received this!
Bottom line: would I buy this from Jelly Pong Pong? I’d have to think about it, but for $22.95 and how small the pan is, probably not.

4. Urban Decay Afterglow in Sin ($26 full size) – this is a very nice, kind of powdery highlight from Urban Decay. Is it anything special and extraordinary? Not really. But definitely great quality and I would like to play around more with it on the tops of my cheekbones.
Bottom line: would I buy this from Urban Decay? Answer would be based on more experimentation.

12

5. Pixi in Petra Silky Eye Pen ($12) – gotta be honest, haven’t tried this yet. If it weren’t for Googling it just now and seeing the incredible price point, I might never have picked it up again. If it’s anything to call home about, you better believe I’ll let you know!

As always, thank you for reading! Did you receive any of the same products and have similar/different thoughts? Please let me know in the comments below! I love hearing about new makeup and other opinions.

The Best of IPSY

“I will continue to repurchase and repurchase.. and repurchase these items.”

These are my tried and true, my most reliable products I’ve received from Ipsy. These are also the products Ipsy has successfully sold me on, which I imagine is their game plan considering they offer monthly discounts for certain beauty brands they promote.

There are a mix of drugstore/high end in this round-up, which I think my readers will appreciate. Some prices are low whereas others take a few paychecks to save up (unless you’re like me and willing to wait for a holiday and a Sephora gift card).

Enough about the intro.. let’s get into this!

  1. Tarte Maracuja Oilfull size retails for $48.00
This was an absolute sell for me. I wholeheartedly love this product and received the travel size in my December 2016 Ipsy bag. I have used this product mostly every night since I received it (probably 90% of the time), and am just now halfway through it. The travel size retails at $15, well worth spending your money. This oil soothes, hydrates, and balances out my skin in ways I didn’t know possible. Full review here if you want to know all of the benefits I’ve seen and how to use it!

    img_20170115_142756

  2. Dr. Brandt Microdermabrasionfull size retails for $79.00
It pains me to include this product because.. well.. $$$ but, I simply must! Dr. Brandt knows what the f*#k they’re doing. I have not found another exfoliator on the market with such finely milled exfoliating beads as this one. The light peppermint scent is enough to relax and soothe your mind. After washing off this product, you’ll notice the softness in your skin as it seems the exfoliator doubles as a hydrator. I love the feeling. I’m not sure that there is a travel size, but if there is that is what I’ll be repurchasing b/c a little goes a long way – and I don’t know that I’ll ever be able to justify $80 on a skincare product (LOL).

    IMG_20170326_210008

  3. IT Cosmetics Superhero mascarafull size retails at $24.00
Let me just say this: you can get a sample size of this mascara to try at Ulta for $10 in the checkout aisle. Let me then say this: do it!! You pay almost $10 or more at the drugstore for mascara anyways, so spend the $10 on a high-end brand in Ulta that has a decent amount of product as well. This mascara does the best job at creating a look full of luxurious lashes. When I wear this mascara, my eyes make a statement. I can’t get enough of it.

  4. Verb Ghost Oilfull size retails  at $14.00
This product is amazing, smells amazing, and has an amazing price point. I do not try hair oils often (because, like most, I’m afraid it’s going to leave my hair greasy) but alas this hair oil has stuck with me. I continually reach for this after washing my hair to disperse through my ends. The light scent is very nice and feminine, but not overwhelming. This product does a great job at sealing in moisture and repairing damaged hair. I will certainly repurchase once I finish the tube.

  5. NYX Butter Lipstickfull size retails at $6.00
This is one of the creamiest lipstick formulas. I’m also a huge fan of the e.l.f. moisturizing lipsticks ($3 and decent wear time), but there’s something about these butter lipsticks that are so soothing on the lips. It’s like giving your lips a drink of water. That being said, they are pretty slippery, so application takes a bit longer than slapping on a liquid lippie, but it’s well worth the time for the color payoff and hydrating formula.

  6. Any of the lip scrubs I’ve received. I am totally new to this type of product and I LOVE it! I’m loving exfoliating my lips before slapping on a hydrating lip balm.
Jelly Pong Pong Coffee + Coconut lip scrub ($19.00) this scrub has a little bit of a “wet” texture to it. It’s less gritty than your typical lip scrubs, and might be best for the people just starting out exfoliating their lips.
Indi Beauty Buttercream lip scrub ($11.99) this scrub is a lot grittier and definitely does a great job at exfoliating your lips prior to moisturizer. It primes them perfectly.

So that’s a round-up of my all time favorite Ipsy products thus far! Do some of these match your list of favs? What have you gone out and repurchased? I want to know!

Magical Makeup Monday: March IPSY Review

“Depending on how you look at this bag, the glass if half full vs half empty.”

IMG_20170326_205140

Hey friends! This month’s bag had a decent variety of products inside. We have some makeup and some skincare, as well as a hair conditioning treatment! If you’re interested in learning what Ipsy is all about, I’ve linked their website here.

IMG_20170326_210008
Full size retails for $79.00.

I’m going to start with my favorite product, and this may come as no surprise: the Dr. Brandt Microdermabrasion Age Defying Exfoliator. This is the most gentle exfoliant I have ever used. EVER. It actually comes out as a cream, but has the tiniest “gritty” feeling (for lack of better wording). The grainy-ness of this product is so gentle and it feels amazing when applied to the face. Once I rinsed this off, my skin felt squeaky clean and instantly softer as if I had moisturized at the same time!

I know the full-size is incredibly pricey, but I may be considering it should it prove its worth in the long run.

My second favorite product was the deep repair hair conditioning treatment by Marc Anthony. This treatment contains aloe, jasmine, and sea kelp to help detangle and strengthen your hair throughout a 3-7 minute time span. I’ve used this twice and haven’t necessarily noticed a huge improvement, but you can’t beat the scent. This leaves my hair smelling fresh and easy to run my brush through.

IMG_20170326_210021
A sample packet retails for $2.99.

Next on the list is the Tarteist Quick Dry Matte Lip Paint in Vibin. I have mixed feelings about this product. It could just be the shade, but I’m not sure. The color isn’t my favorite, it’s a deep red with brownish hints to it. It seemed to apply just a tad streaky, and took a couple swipes to become opaque. I will say this: it doesn’t budge. You will need a certified liquid lip remover to get this off.
This retails for $20.00.

Next is the mPrincess pressed eyeshadow in the shade Chestnut. Gotta be honest here, I’m typically underwhelmed with this brand. Furthermore, I could carry on with Ipsy bags without this brand. I just don’t feel they offer anything better than their competition. I am never overly impressed or feel the urge to reach for their shadows. Personally, I feel that they lack pigment and blendability.
This retails for $15.45.

Lastly is the Beau Gachis Tapered Blending Brush. This brand is low-key and doesn’t disappoint! I have loved every brush I’ve received of theirs from Ipsy and will continue to use them. Since this one is a longer brush, it’s a little more “flimsy” so I have to work it a little for blending in the crease. Overall, solid brand with dependable brushes.

IMG_20170326_210039
This retails for $12.00.

So that’s this month’s Ipsy bag! Have you found anything worth purchasing later on? Did you receive any of the same products I did? Please share your thoughts in the comments below! I’m always interested to see what others thought/received.

Don’t forget to review and rate your Ipsy products as a way to earn points towards choosing a FREE BONUS item in your next bag!
