Empties! Skincare Edition

“If I ignore the fact I have a new empties post monthly,
that means I’m not spending $$, right?”

Here I am. Back again. WITH. MORE. SKINCARE. EMPTIES. I would say I’m ashamed, but truly I am not, so, here we are. I will confidently type on this keyboard to let you know what I thought of six skincare empties and if I will be repurchasing or NAH.

Want the tea? I’m about to spill it.

First up, one of my favorites in the bunch, Hey Honey’s Detoxifying mud mask (retails for $54.00).

I originally reviewed this product here, so you can see I’ve been on the Hey Honey skin-detoxing train for awhile now. I admit, yes, it’s pricey. That will take a few paydays before you want to pull the trigger.

Snapchat-261111581

HOWEVER – H O W E V E R…… I love it. I notice an actual difference in my skin/pores the next morning. It also doubles as a mild exfoliant with the tiny beeds in the mask. It doesn’t smell the greatest, but IDGAF, it’s so good. This will leave you with softer skin and less gunk in your pores. And it’s mild. It doesn’t dry down to a stiff mask on your face. I do not notice any irritation. I will absolutely be splurging on the larger tub of this as I cannot live without! It’s one of my holy grail face masks.

Wanna save 10% to lessen the blow? I have a Hey Honey discount code: type “ksloves10” at checkout Image result for angel emoji

Next up is my second favorite item, and that was a DIY body scrub I made in a class led by Nyambi Naturals, a Philadelphia practicer of homegrown therapies. We used calendula-infused grapeseed oil, lavender and mint essential oils, and sugar to create this magic and I reached for this every other day for the two weeks it was good for.
*It expires after two weeks since there are no preservative ingredients – ALL FRESH.

This made my skin feel incredible. The formula also includes castor soap, which cleanses the body along with exfoliation. I freaking loved this stuff and need to invest in a double-boiler to make more! Lmk if any of y’all would be interested in a DIY post on how to make this body scrub.

The next product has become another holy grail of mine and that is the Clinique Take the Day Off cleansing balm (retails for $29.50).

Previously, I’ve reviewed this product here and you can read all about my infatuation with it. Yes, I have repurchased and intend to do so again and again. It does not irritate my skin or break me out and cleanses my entire layer of makeup before I go in with my face wash.

Next we have TWO Mario Badescu products (not surprising, tbh) and the first one is the Facial Spray with Aloe, Herbs, and Rosewater (smaller bottle is $7.00). This spray is awesome and is a cult-favorite for a reason. Sets your makeup in place all day, smells refreshing, and takes away the powdery look of your finished face. I have previously repurchased this setting spray and will probably continue to do so – I have yet to find one better and the price is ON POINT.

My second Mario Badescu product is their Whitening Mask ($24.00 for 2 oz.)

This is ideal for all skin and aims to reveal brighter and smoother skin beneath the surface. I love all MB face masks. I think they do wonders and pack a punch – not to mention, they’re based at an affordable rate. I would use this mask where I experience discoloration and dehydration (mainly forehead and cheeks), but I will be repurchasing and trying this out under my jawline where I have recently been dealing with adult acne (oh, the joys).

My last product is the Body Shop’s Tea Tree Oil for treating blemishes (normally $10 but on sale for $6 as I write this).

This product WORKS, I’ll say that much. I think I need a new bottle and will always keep this around for evenings before big events when I feel a blemish coming on. You want to stop an under-the-skin blemish before it even makes its way to the top? Rub this in before bed.

Although, I recently learned from a facial specialist that your body absorbs a lot of the toxins you slather on top of it (think: face wash, masks, spot treatments) and so for this reason I am slowing my roll on the tea tree oil – I used to go ham on this stuff. It’s time it takes a backseat but will I be repurchasing for those stubborn blemishes? Hellz yeah.

So those are this month’s skincare empties. Hope you enjoyed! Found something new, or reminded yourself of one of these products you love and haven’t used in awhile? Lemme know in the comments! I love talking through skincare products.

Let’s Chat: Clinique Take the Day Off Cleansing Balm

“This kinda got me into the whole ‘double cleansing’ trend.”

HELLO, hi there, it’s me, KS Loves back at it again. Today we’re breaking down all pros and cons of the ever so popular Clinique Take the Day Off Cleansing Balm. Full size of this product costs $29.50 but you can also find yourself a travel size of this in Sephora or Ulta.. at least I’m pretty sure you can because that’s the size I tried out first (lol).

I feel like the double-cleansing preach is on the rise and in my opinion, for the right reasons. Girlfriend you gotta get that makeup off your face before you go in with a face wash or how’s your face wash supposed to deep clean?!

img_20180510_213911225092222439497171.jpg

Makeup wipes will get the job done but can often leave you without that silky smooth yet squeaky clean feeling. The idea behind a cleansing balm is that it melts down from a solid to an oil and breaks up your makeup. It is extremely soothing and doubles as a nourishment to your skin. Instead of stripping it, the cleansing balm gently removes your makeup within seconds.

I wasn’t sure how I would like an oily product on my face because (hello, oily af over here), but it does such a powerful job cleansing and leaving my skin soft, not feeling tight.

PROS:

  • full-size lasts you a long time (I bought this jar in January and you can see how much I have left after using 5/7 days per week)
  • melts off your makeup without stripping or tugging at the skin
  • scentless and shouldn’t irritate sensitive skin
  • does what it says it will do while simultaneously adding moisture back to your skin

CONS:

  • since this is an oily balm, it’s difficult to wash off, and easier to remove with a damp cloth – for this one reason I hate dirtying a wash cloth almost constantly

So that’s my review – what are your thoughts?! Do you have this product? I see the reason it is so poppin’ over most social media pages. Thank you so very much for the read and until next time…

Empties Segment: skincare products

“50% of this roundup is Mario Badescu products & I’m not mad.”

TODAY I am bringing to your pretty little eyes six skincare items I have completely used up and my unfiltered opinion on them. Are they worth your $$? I’ma let you know.

First up, Philosophy Purity made simple facial cleanser – 24 oz. retails for $44

So I just want to start by saying, if you prefer a higher end face wash, this is HANDS DOWN worth the splurge. Here’s why: this 24 oz. bottle lasted me an entire year. Oh, you didn’t read that right? Yes, I said an entire year. In the case of some drugstore face washes, you could spend that money in a year! My thoughts are pretty simple here, this face wash is well-deserved of all the praise it receives. It does a great job at breaking up makeup and does not irritate the skin whatsoever.

Would I repurchase? Yes, definitely.

*However, if you’re in the market for an alternative that (in my opinion) does the same thing, look no further than Cetaphil at the drugstore. Thank me later.

Next, we have our Kirkland brand facial makeup remover wipes – 150 toilettes for $14.99

I’m not even sure it’s legal to sell makeup remover wipes this affordable. Can someone follow up on this? Nonetheless, they are phenomenal. I took awhile to get used to these as I was so used to the Neutrogena brand. However, these are just as good and get the job done. Also, they’re 10 cents a wipe so like idk what more I need to say to sell you on these.

Would I repurchase? Yes, when I make my way through 150 of them.

Third, we have the Clinique Take the Day Off cleansing balm – $29.50

Okay, I tried the sample size of this before I spent $30 on a “pre-cleanse” and immediately went and purchased the large size. Absolutely, without a doubt worth your coin. It truly melts away your makeup, breaking down your foundation, concealer, and all powders. Be careful around your eyes as to rub gently, you don’t want to pull any lashes out. This melts away your eye makeup and leaves your skin prepped for your facial cleanser.

Would I repurchase? I already have!

Okay onto our Mario Badescu products as I’m sure that’s what you came to the party for.

  1. Mario Badescu flower & tonic mask – 2 oz costs $18
This mask is meant for the congested parts of your face (nose and chin for me)
I love love loved this face mask. I think the price is great, the quality is even better, and I will definitely be repurchasing. This mask dries down very quickly and sucks the life out of your pores. I love it. I think of all the masks I’ve tried, this one does the best job at absorbing excess oils.
  2. Mario Badescu super collagen mask – 2 oz costs $18
This mask is meant to hydrate dull and dry areas of your face (forehead and cheeks for me)
I enjoyed this mask as well, but I don’t think it’s for me. As far as the “hydrating” aspect of this, I didn’t notice it. In fact, it dried down quickly just as the flower & tonic one did, leaving me feeling like it was sucking out more moisture than it was replenishing. I didn’t notice a difference in the hydration of my skin. I would not buy again.
  3. Mario Badescu cucumber cleansing lotion – 8 oz for $15
This stuff is freaking awesome. Don’t be dissuaded by the name, it’s highly deceiving if you’re a normal human like me and think “cleansing lotion” screams moisturizer on your face. Wrong. This is a liquid! I would treat this as a toner, using it after face wash and before moisturizers. It is ideally for combination/oily skin and meant to prevent breakouts by removing buildup and bacteria.
Would I repurchase? Maybe if I hadn’t been introduced to the Pixi Glow Tonic – yes.

So those are my empties for this month! Have you tried any of these? Would you recommend I give something another thought, or did you have the same experience? Let me know what you think in the comments below.

Thank you so very much for the read – xo

PRODUCT REVIEW: Clinique Beyond Perfecting Foundation + Concealer

“This was my first high end foundation purchase!”

4

OKAY. I am ready to fully review the Clinique Beyond Perfecting Foundation + Concealer. You can pick this up in Sephora, online, or at any Clinique counter inside Macy’s. I didn’t even let Sephora not having my shade stop me from purchasing this – and ran to the nearest Macy’s in center city.

So I bought this in the shade alabaster, after being shade matched in Sephora (which I highly recommend). If you’re going to be spending a pretty penny on your first high end foundation, bish you better get it matched to your skin tone. This is v important, considering you want to look good and make your $$ well spent.

IMG_20170620_124258-2

I’m going to lay it all out as far as the good and the bad, the pretty and the ugly.

GOOD:

  • very full coverage without feeling too heavy/cakey
  • nice scent, if you can even smell it (I’ve heard from a friend it’s not noticeable)
  • application is smooth and blends evenly when using a brush
  • decent price for a high end foundation (retails for $28.00)
  • buildable coverage
  • incredible shade range

BAD:

  • does not stay matte after 4-5 hours (at least not for someone shiny like me)
  • dries rather quickly on the skin, so I would recommend doing one half of your face at a time
  • can look a little dry on my nose (but that could be my skin type), so I usually finish with a damp sponge to perfect the look

IMG_20170620_124321-2

So that wraps up this review! I really like this foundation – the coverage is there, and it lasts me all day long. In the future, I will look for a more mattifying formula, but I can guarantee I’ll repurchase this down the line. It is a staple item to keep in your collection!

Have you tried this foundation? What are your thoughts? Do you agree/disagree? Are there any other foundations I should be seeking out suitable for my skin type?!

First Impressions: Sephora Mini Haul

“That was a v successful trip to Sephora.”

1
Today’s mini haul was brought to you by a gift card I’ve kept for the sole purpose of, well.. a “mini haul.” Because let’s be real – this isn’t large enough to be considered a haul.

ANWAYS.

I got a little bit of face, eye primer, lips, and cleaning product to talk about today fam! Time to dive on in.

First up on the list (also my most anticipated item), the Clinique Beyond Perfecting Foundation + Concealer. This retails for $28.00 at Sephora. I went in, got shade matched, was feeling on top of the world, then found out “Alabaster” was sold out in Sephora. FEAR NOT my friends because you bet your ass I was running to the Clinique counter at the nearest Macy’s for a quick purchase. And so I got my hands on it.

4.png

My thoughts:

  • definitely lives up to the full-coverage claim
  • blends very easily, at least with a brush
    – does dry down a little quickly, so I do half my face at a time
  • lasts all day – though I still get shiny in my t-zone, nothing new there
  • if you’re not careful, can appear the slightest bit “cakey,” but it’s nothing a spritz of setting spray can’t fix!

Next was another highly anticipated item for me, the NARS Smudge Proof Eyeshadow Base. This costs $26.00. Casey Holmes often raves about this on YouTube, and since we share the trend of oily eyelids, I figured I’d spend a little extra $$ and give it a shot.

5

My thoughts:

  • AWESOME
  • easy to apply, easy to set
  • controls the oil-production on your eyelids
  • eyeshadow lasted really well the first time I used this

Then we have our ever so highly recommended brush cleaner from Laura Lee! The Cinema Secrets Makeup Brush Cleaner is available in a travel size for $8.00 (for all my peeps out there wanting to stick your toe in and not dive head first).

8

7
My thoughts:

  • cleans brushes INSTANTLY
  • easiest product to use
  • for the ease at which you can clean your brushes, I’m willing to say it’s worth the price tag, and I plan to buy the value size next (which I’m sure will last a long time)
  • I actually did a full review of this brush cleaner here!

Lastly, and certainly not least, the new Tarte Rainforest of the Sea Color Splash Lipstick! I saw Rachhloves rave about this in a recent video and recommend the shade Salt Lyfe, and when I heard it once more in another YouTube video, I didn’t need to be told a third time. This costs $21.00 in Sephora.

3

My thoughts:

  • I am in love with this shade, formula, everything
  • This is one of my first “higher end” lipstick purchases, and I’d be more than happy to buy a second shade
  • I wore this out during a night of drinking and dancing Image result for dancing girl emoji, and it held up fairly well, but you should definitely keep it in your purse to re-apply
  • For those looking to save some dolla bills – I think a solid dupe for these are the
    e.l.f. Moisturizing Lipsticks for $3.00

So that’s that! Have you tried any of these products? Know of any dupes for less cash money? Please let me know if you do.
