Decorate with Me! Cozy Christmas Edition

“Could the magic of Christmas be that it never loses its magic?”

IMG_20171202_153508.jpg

Slowly, year by year, I am trying to revamp my Christmas decorations style. I know you know what I mean. Some people love the vibrant reds and greens, others dream of the “snow-frosted” white Christmas. I like vintage pieces, but also rustic DIY projects. I think I’m still in the process of finding my Christmas style, but I’m getting there.

Below you’ll find some of my favorite pieces, and for the most part where you can buy them and how much they cost. Because let’s be real here – you need to know the good good if you want to replicate anything you see in your own home.

Let’s start out with some home decor you probably saw in last year’s Christmas segment (shout-out to my ONE YEAR blogging anniversary coming up!).

That beautifully-glowing Christmas present glass box was given to me by a friend. Get this – someone made it for them! So it is doable. My best guess is a frosted glass box, some twinkle lights on the inside, and a big bow to tie it off.

The “Merry Christmas” sign is from my all-time favorite vintage/rustic Christmas shop,
The Old Candle Barn in Lancaster, Pennsylvania. It was $8.99. This is the same place I bought my little caroler girls for $3.99/each.

The “Holiday House Rules” came from Kohl’s and cost $29.99 originally but I know I wouldn’t pay that (LMAO); I remember buying it on sale during Black Friday in 2016.

The wooden “tray” is new from Home Goods and cost $12.99. I think it adds a nice rustic touch to the wooden coffee table. I remember buying the reindeer candle holder from Kohl’s years ago. That Fireside candle is from the Shady Maple Gift Shop (also located in Lancaster, PA).

Per usual, I have to include a couple photos of my Christmas tree – would it be a Christmas post without it?!

That sign above my tree came from Home Goods for $14.99.
I got my tree from Big Lots on Black Friday in 2016 for $59.99. Incredibly good find. Image result for okay emoji

One of my favorite ideas this Christmas are these pillowcases. Casey Holmes posted about this genius idea on Snapchat and I was determined to replicate this in my home when I got the chance. Here is where you can buy all six pillowcases for your throw pillows for $19.99. Then I bought a pack of four pillows (18″ x 18″) for $19.99. Instead of buying a single pillow for $15-20 depending on where you go, you can invest in the pillows and swap out 4-6 cases each season for the price of one. You’ll save storage space and $$ spent on decorative throw pillows!

All Hearts Come Home at Christmas” pillow is from the Old Candle Barn and cost $7.99.

Lastly, I have this really cool DIY project involving a galvanized vase and some branches I picked out and put together. I think I’ll save this for its own blog post. Image result for wink emoji

So those are my holiday decorations for 2017! How about yours? Do you have a blog post up detailing your finds? Is there something I can add to my collection? Lmk in the comments below!

Magical Makeup Monday: Birthday Haul

Me to my boyfriend: “Wait.. you actually went into Ulta by yourself?”

img_20170104_125810img_20170104_125837

This is the mother load of all birthday presents known to relationships. I’m not going to drone on about how thoughtful it was for my boyfriend to surprise me with makeup I actually wanted, but I will say this once: he made my birthday his bitch.

So, naturally, I wanted to write about this haul because this is stuff I REALLY wanted to buy myself! I keep this Google doc of makeup I’d like to buy once I have enough cash money to spend (can be seen in Magical Makeup Monday: The Makeup Obsession is Real) and only three people have access to it: myself, my colleague, and my best friend.

I’m assuming the conversation went a little like this:

Bf to best friend: Do you have that list Katrina keeps of makeup she can’t afford to buy just yet?
Best friend: Obviously.
Bf: Could you send that to me and then tell me which stuff to get?
Best friend: Yes but only if you buy me some of the things on the list too.
Bf: Deal.

ANYWAYS, he got his hands on the list and took it to Ulta. BY. HIMSELF. Where I wrote “try travel size,” he ignored and bought full-size. If I wrote two shades of lipstick, he bought four. He even showed the woman taking him around the store a picture of me so she could match my foundation shade. Think it couldn’t get any better? He arranged everything in organizers from the Container Store I’ve had my eyes on for weeks.

img_20170109_175810

img_20170109_175741

Guys… he even went to Target for e.l.f. since Ulta doesn’t carry it.

img_20170109_175844

So let’s jump into this!
Every product mentioned:

Obviously I haven’t used all of this yet, but I did try out a few things I’d like to mention!

First, the Carli Bybel palette is amazing. Love the color-scheme with the mauves, purples, pinks, and highlight colors. I’m no makeup guru when it comes to applying eyeshadows, so I followed Carli’s tutorial on her “go-to” look using the palette. It turned out beautifully, and I used my new e.l.f. crease brush to blend the darker colors.

img_20170109_175924img_20170109_180003

The e.l.f. crease brush is handy! I like that it’s smaller than your average crease brush, though since it is smaller, your color will be more concentrated. It’s great for placement, but I might recommend a fatter crease brush for blending outwards.

img_20170109_180152

The cult-favorite bronzer that is Physician’s Formula Butter Bronzer is exactly how they say it is… flawless. It blends out so nicely and is not a harsh brown/orange color. It’s very natural-looking, especially on my lighter skin. Compared to my Ulta bronzer which you can easily overdo, this bronzer proves easy to build and provides a sun kissed glow, which I’ll take in the middle of winter!

img_20170109_180039img_20170109_175422985

I felt a little impartial towards the Essence Pure Nude Highlighter. It didn’t stun me, though it definitely did not disappoint either. I applied it with my Real Techniques small tapered brush, and I felt like it took a couple swipes to see payoff. I’ll be honest, this is the first time I’ve ever used a highlighter *gasp* and didn’t really know what to expect. I will certainly use this again and play around with other brushes.

img_20170109_180101img_20170109_175352187

Lastly, but certainly not least, I tested out the Urban Decay All-Nighter Makeup Setting Spray. My skin is on the oily side, and the bf must know that because he got me the “De-Slick” version without me clarifying that on my Google doc (lol, not complaining). I will need to use this a couple more times to really pay attention to its potential. It’s a light mist, which a girl can appreciate as it’s not really that fun to sit around and fan yourself dry for five minutes. There is not a scent either, just a cooling factor. Will report back if product proves irreplaceable.

img_20170109_184735

So that’s that! An amazing birthday filled with amazing makeup for my night out in the city. I hope my first impressions on some of these items are helpful to some of you looking to try out the same things. Please let me know in the comments below if you’ve purchased the same products and your thoughts on them!

Fancy Friday: Christmas Decorations

“Fa la la la la, la la la – laaaaa!”

img_20161211_162157316

Can you take a second and pretend that you hear this song in the background:

“Sleigh bells ring, are you listenin’? In the lane, snow is glistenin’.
A beautiful sight, we’re happy tonight, walkin’ in a Winter Wonderland.”

The thing is, I really wanted to add a song to the background of this page, but “Blogging 101” told me that readers hate that. Is that true? I’m still learning how to blog myself, so I feel that I can speak for the general population of readers and confirm: yes, turn that ish off.

Alright, I’m taking you on a photographic tour of my cozy Christmas home. Our tree has a silver and white theme this year, it’s not a sporadic rainbow like when you were seven and your mom let you hang every art project you brought home.
img_20161211_170202002

We have centerpieces.
img_20161211_170007

And a door wreath.
img_20161212_081542460

Don’t forget the wall art.
img_20161211_170041

And more Christmas lights.
img_20161211_170113

Oh, and we should really discuss the plethora of candles in our apartment. Because what is a holiday-decorated apartment without the scent of pine, roasting marshmallows, the North Pole, and baking cookies?
img_20161211_174607439

Lastly, I can’t forget to mention the miniature tree that I put up in my bedroom. I mean, can you really have too many trees lit in your home? *In addition to all the candles burning.*

img_20161211_174955673

You want to know the best place for post-Christmas decoration shopping? Hallmark. I’ve included pictures below of items I purchased at the beginning of 2016 at a heavily discounted price.

Can you guess where I’ll be in January of 2017?

So that’s the home this season! Leave a comment below if you found similar items or are interested in knowing where mine are from. I’m happy to share the inspiration.

Fancy Friday: DIY Snow Globes

“I mean… how cute are these?”

img_20161206_150400715

‘TIS THE SEASON, am I right? Today we’re making DIY snow globes! Here’s everything you’ll need (and you can find it all at Michael’s!):

  • Some sort of glass/plastic mini bowl, dome, or jar.
  • Fancy cardstock paper – whatever design you prefer that would complement your globe “dwellers.”
  • Fake snow.
  • Miniature Christmas figurines – found mine at Michael’s and they’re called “Merry Minis.”
  • Plastic jewels.
  • Hot glue gun.

Line your characters up and place together in cute and adorable combinations. See mine below:

img_20161206_143236016img_20161206_144234741

First thing’s first, turn on the hot glue gun!
Second, cut out your cardstock paper as a base to your snow globe. You can copy my design above, or create your own!
Next, you’re going to glue the miniature figurines to your cardstock base.
Once your figurines are stuck to the cardstock base, add a few pinches of snow to the bottom of your globe. See below:

img_20161206_143401531

You can first place your cardstock upside down on top of your globe (with the figurines now inside the globe) and flip it over to see whether the snow has settled the way you prefer. If there is too much, remove some. Too little, add to it! You want to get the amount of snow correct before you continue to glue the globe to the base permanently.
From here, you can place hot glue around the rim of the globe, and stick your base to it. Be careful to let this dry before you turn it back over.

img_20161206_143330979img_20161206_144251131

Once your globe is secure to the base, glue any jewel you’d like to the top of the globe!
And then viola!
