Obsessing over the Carli Bybel Deluxe Edition Eyeshadow Palette

“Having the original palette did not stop me from purchasing the deluxe edition.”

See a little tutorial I filmed using this palette on my Instagram here!

I bought Carli Bybel’s deluxe edition eyeshadow palette from BH Cosmetics for $22.50. I actually think I snagged this while it was on sale for an even lower price, but paying $23 for this does not break the bank by any means.

For those of you that have already purchased her original palette, I’ll link my thoughts on that one here! Otherwise, ignore this paragraph because I believe that one has sold out and discontinued (wahhh).

HOWEVER – for you guys/gals who may not have known about the original palette in the first place and are still looking for a versatile, easy-to-use eyeshadow palette, this one may suit you perfectly. There are transition colors for days, shades for warm and cool-toned looks, and highlights to shine to the Gods.

With 21 different eyeshadows and highlighting shades, there is something for every eye color. This palette allows the option to build up an eye look so gradiently and effortlessly. The shadows have a ton of pigment and blend easily enough for me (a total “wannabe” makeup user). I would recommend this palette to any of my friends.

  • versatility with one palette to create multiple looks
  • shadows are pigmented and blend easily for us beginners
  • highlight shades are POPPIN’ so that’s an additional benefit to get highlighter shades in an eyeshadow palette
  • loads of transition shades and colors to build up an eye look
  • extremely affordable price for 21 different colors

I absolutely adore Carli Bybel and am happy to support her by purchasing her eyeshadow palette – or both. If you have an opportunity to snag this puppy, don’t sleep on it! It is such good quality at an affordable cost.

Way to go Carli – you’re a queen on YouTube and a queen of makeup.

Carli Bybel’s $100k Goal for Cambodia

“It may have been small, but I made my contribution.”

So if you haven’t heard, Carli Bybel is launching her own makeup line, called Pranava Beauty. BUT FIRST, she released four bracelets in hopes of raising $100k in a month to present a number of young girls in Cambodia with scholarships to help them further their education.

The secret’s out – she did it!

I have a newfound respect for Carli, because now she isn’t just a YouTuber. Which is already a full-blown 24/7 job. She stands for something much larger than makeup, and that is someone looking to inspire the world, and not just by speaking, but acting on it.

Her first release on her website are the Charity Bracelets, which stand for: hope, energy, balance and serenity. The bracelets retail at $20.00, and shipping is $4.95 (if I remember correctly). The bracelet shipped quickly and arrived fast as well, and that was after thousands of people pre-ordered before the shipping date.

I chose serenity – which “comes when you trade expectations for acceptance.”

I think these bracelets have great meaning behind them, considering you are helping girls in another country receive professional education. And it’s a great reminder on your wrist to keep yourself in the right mindset. Not to mention, it’s stunning AF.

I thought the price point was on par for these bracelets (similar to Carli’s affordable eyeshadow palettes), and was sold after watching her YouTube video introducing the brand and what it stood for.

Are you a Carli fan and did you buy one of these as well? What are your thoughts?! I’m interested to hear what other’s think.. outside stalking the YouTube comments on the video hahaha

Magical Makeup Monday: Carli Bybel Palette & Swatches

“Carli has me hooked on her YouTube channel and now her eyeshadow palette.”

I feel like the Carli Bybel palette was custom-made for me. Where my blue-eyed girls at? And green? Can’t forget brown and hazel, because this palette is made for anyone. I love the transition from light and creamy shades to medium brown and dark plum. Not to mention the four highlighting shades ranging from a very light pinky tone to a deep bronzy gold. I have yet to touch the green shade in this palette, but that’s just a personal preference (haven’t found how to use green shadow with blue eyes yet). Give me time… or suggestions!

For those of you who haven’t watched Carli Bybel on YouTube yet, I will obviously link her channel. She. Is. A. Queen. And so fun to watch doing makeup tutorials. I also quite enjoy her skincare regimens and monthly favorites, as she’ll incorporate prices of everything right into her videos! Carli does a lot of dramatic looks, but will feature some stripped-down eye looks on her channel as well. I never get bored watching her, and her cats, and occasional cameo appearances of her boyfriend.

But enough about her <3… back to the palette.

The consistency of these shadows are beautiful, and blend wonderfully on the eyes. They are also v pigmented, so you won’t need to use a lot, and might want to tap your brush off before applying. I apply the lighter/shimmery shadows to the inner corners of my eyes with my fingers, as I notice they hold pigment the best that way. If you are used to spraying your brush with facial spray to enhance pigment, that works really well too!

Below are the eyeshadow swatches, starting with the top left corner of the palette to the bottom right, going across each row from left to right.

With colors ranging from light to dark, Carli made it very easy to go from daytime to nighttime in one palette. You can keep it simple by adding a matte brown to your crease for a little depth, or go smokey by incorporating the dark mauve/plummy shades. Personally, my favorite tutorial on this palette is by Carli herself for her go-to look.

The highlighting shades probably take the cake for me in this palette. A lot of times, I find myself using the first two from the left side of the palette on the inner corners of my eyes for a pop of shimmer. The two darker gold/copper shimmer shades are stunning on the inner corner of the eye, and hold amazing pigment. Otherwise, they make great highlights on the tops of your cheeks, as they are meant to do!

Let me know in the comments below if you’ve tried this palette and what you think. Am I missing an eyeshadow combo from the colors available? Link me to your favorite Carli Bybel palette tutorial if you have one – I’m excited to expand my horizons!

Magical Makeup Monday: Birthday Haul

Me to my boyfriend: “Wait.. you actually went into Ulta by yourself?”

This is the mother load of all birthday presents known to relationships. I’m not going to drone on about how thoughtful it was for my boyfriend to surprise me with makeup I actually wanted, but I will say this once: he made my birthday his bitch.

So, naturally, I wanted to write about this haul because this is stuff I REALLY wanted to buy myself! I keep this Google doc of makeup I’d like to buy once I have enough cash money to spend (can be seen in Magical Makeup Monday: The Makeup Obsession is Real) and only three people have access to it: myself, my colleague, and my best friend.

I’m assuming the conversation went a little like this:

Bf to best friend: Do you have that list Katrina keeps of makeup she can’t afford to buy just yet?
Best friend: Obviously.
Bf: Could you send that to me and then tell me which stuff to get?
Best friend: Yes but only if you buy me some of the things on the list too.
Bf: Deal.

ANYWAYS, he got his hands on the list and took it to Ulta. BY. HIMSELF. Where I wrote “try travel size,” he ignored and bought full-size. If I wrote two shades of lipstick, he bought four. He even showed the woman taking him around the store a picture of me so she could match my foundation shade. Think it couldn’t get any better? He arranged everything in organizers from the Container Store I’ve had my eyes on for weeks.

Guys… he even went to Target for e.l.f. since Ulta doesn’t carry it.

So let’s jump into this!
Every product mentioned:

Obviously I haven’t used all of this yet, but I did try out a few things I’d like to mention!

First, the Carli Bybel palette is amazing. Love the color-scheme with the mauves, purples, pinks, and highlight colors. I’m no makeup guru when it comes to applying eyeshadows, so I followed Carli’s tutorial on her “go-to” look using the palette. It turned out beautifully, and I used my new e.l.f. crease brush to blend the darker colors.

The e.l.f. crease brush is handy! I like that it’s smaller than your average crease brush, though since it is smaller, your color will be more concentrated. It’s great for placement, but I might recommend a fatter crease brush for blending outwards.

The cult-favorite bronzer that is Physician’s Formula Butter Bronzer is exactly how they say it is… flawless. It blends out so nicely and is not a harsh brown/orange color. It’s very natural-looking, especially on my lighter skin. Compared to my Ulta bronzer which you can easily overdo, this bronzer proves easy to build and provides a sun kissed glow, which I’ll take in the middle of winter!

I felt a little impartial towards the Essence Pure Nude Highlighter. It didn’t stun me, though it definitely did not disappoint either. I applied it with my Real Techniques small tapered brush, and I felt like it took a couple swipes to see payoff. I’ll be honest, this is the first time I’ve ever used a highlighter *gasp* and didn’t really know what to expect. I will certainly use this again and play around with other brushes.

Lastly, but certainly not least, I tested out the Urban Decay All-Nighter Makeup Setting Spray. My skin is on the oily side, and the bf must know that because he got me the “De-Slick” version without me clarifying that on my Google doc (lol, not complaining). I will need to use this a couple more times to really pay attention to its potential. It’s a light mist, which a girl can appreciate as it’s not really that fun to sit around and fan yourself dry for five minutes. There is not a scent either, just a cooling factor. Will report back if product proves irreplaceable.

So that’s that! An amazing birthday filled with amazing makeup for my night out in the city. I hope my first impressions on some of these items are helpful to some of you looking to try out the same things. Please let me know in the comments below if you’ve purchased the same products and your thoughts on them!
