Empties/Throw-A-Ways Part #2

“Wow I use a ton of makeup, didn’t I just do a post like this?!”

IMG_20170926_185530.jpg

BACK at it again, folks 😉

It’s time for another segment of “Will I repurchase?” or “Why did I toss it?” I think these posts are super helpful to others! It shows you actually put time and effort into a product and for some reason or another loved it (considering you finished it) or hated it (enough to throw it away).

This is different than a first impression, this is a bonafide REVIEW, ladies.

First up!

  1. it Cosmetics Superhero mascara retails for $24.00
THIS. MASCARA. IS. AMAZING. Admittedly, it’s one of the first high-end mascaras I’ve ever used! And it did not disappoint. This is, hands down, a holy grail. It gives volume, length, and adds “ba da BAM!” to your lashes.
    Would I repurchase? Absolutely.
  2. Model Co Power Lash mascara retails for $9.00 (travel size)
I was not a fan of this mascara. I used it up on weekdays for work because it added something to my eyes to wake me up. On weekends? Forget about it – never reached for it.
    Would I repurchase? No.
    IMG_20170926_185411
  3. CVS Calming Cleansing towelettes retail for $6.59
These were dry, which I suppose is to be expected from a store brand makeup wipe. I’d rather use Neutrogena or the Simple micellar water wipes (which Kathleen Lights raves about). Anyways, since they weren’t wet enough, they tugged a lot at my skin, which caused an opposite sensation than “calming.” Instead, I was left with a red face and had to work twice as hard to remove all traces of makeup.
Would I repurchase? No, but maybe in a pinch.
    IMG_20170926_185220
  4. Rimmel London Stay Matte pressed powder in sandstorm retails for $5.49
I LOVE this pressed powder! Since they have a *semi-pathetic* shade range, you can at least get a small amount of coverage from this powder if used with a sponge. I typically swirl my brush into it to set my face, especially the areas where I get the oiliest *cough, t-zone, cough*. But it does a phenomenal job at keeping me matte for longer than usual. I like that it’s small enough to take on the road too.
BE FOREWARNED: it breaks easily! Don’t be throwing it around in your bag.
Would I repurchase? Yes! And I already have!
    IMG_20170926_185241
  5. American Eagle rollerball fragrance retails for $14.95
I don’t remember which scent this is in, but I loved this! Rollerballs are so convenient to carry in your purse for touch-ups on the go. I remember being pleasantly surprised with this scent and would 100% buy another AEO rollerball. Sometimes they’re on sale for just $10, which is completely worth it.
    Would I repurchase? Yes.
    IMG_20170926_185320
  6. Caudalie Moisturizing Sorbet Cream retails for $39.00
This moisturizer was good, I’ll give it that. It has a “cream-to-gel” formula that instantly melts into your skin. It left my face slightly tacky for a good foundation application, and the scent wasn’t bad either. However. However. I would never spend $40 on this. I will continue you buy my Garnier gel moisturizer for a fraction of the price. It provides the same moisture my skin needs while maintaining a lightweight feel that doesn’t add any extra shine to my t-zone.
    Would I repurchase? No.
    IMG_20170926_185305

So that’s everything! What are your thoughts? Have you emptied any of the same or similar products? Did you feel the same, or nah? Let me know – I’d love to discuss them some more.

Vacationing on North Topsail Island

“I ate way too much and took too many naps – I have no regrets.”

Snapchat-845534456
This year’s family vacation took place on Topsail Island in North Carolina for the second year in a row. I’m ready to share pictures of the waves, seafood, drinks, and as much as I can to persuade anyone to give this peaceful island a go.

I feel like I blinked and my vacation was over and I teleported back to Pennsylvania and woke up like, “I thought I was still in Topsail?!” Image result for cry face emoji

IMG_20170622_192816
This is a stunning island for anyone looking for a peaceful getaway. We stayed in North Topsail, where the beach is relaxing and the sounds are quiet. A small distance away is Surf City and Sneads Ferry, where you can find coffee shops, bakeries, restaurants, fishing piers, and souvenir shops. It’s the perfect mix of serenity and activities.

We indulged in so much seafood and drinks that I gained six pounds (and no, that’s not an exaggeration – I weighed myself this morning). But this was to no surprise, considering I ordered fried seafood and island drinks the first three nights #noregrets

And that’s not where the indulging ended…

Also not sorry.

This was an amazing trip and it was so nice to get away from the rush of work life and disconnect for a week. Could I have stayed longer? Certainly! Who couldn’t? But it’s back to reality for this girl. The work grind is what pays for the nice trips, ya dig?

Before I sign off, anyone have any idea what this is in the picture below???

IMG_20170621_124154

Fish… stingray… pregnant sea snail?! The mystery will live on.

Let me know if you’ve ever been to the shore in North Carolina. I know my East Coasters are well aware of how beautiful OBX and other beaches are in that area, but I’m curious if anyone has visited Topsail Island or anywhere nearby.

Until next time my beautiful people xo

PRODUCT REVIEW: Clinique Beyond Perfecting Foundation + Concealer

“This was my first high end foundation purchase!”

4

OKAY. I am ready to fully review the Clinique Beyond Perfecting Foundation + Concealer. You can pick this up in Sephora, online, or at any Clinique counter inside Macy’s. I didn’t even let Sephora not having my shade stop me from purchasing this – and ran to the nearest Macy’s in center city.

So I bought this in the shade alabaster, after being shade matched in Sephora (which I highly recommend). If you’re going to be spending a pretty penny on your first high end foundation, bish you better get it matched to your skin tone. This is v important, considering you want to look good and make your $$ well spent.

IMG_20170620_124258-2

I’m going to lay it all out as far as the good and the bad, the pretty and the ugly.

GOOD:

  • very full coverage without feeling too heavy/cakey
  • nice scent, if you can even smell it (I’ve heard from a friend it’s not noticeable)
  • application is smooth and blends evenly when using a brush
  • decent price for a high end foundation (retails for $28.00)
  • buildable coverage
  • incredible shade range

BAD:

  • does not stay matte after 4-5 hours (at least not for someone shiny like me)
  • dries rather quickly on the skin, so I would recommend doing one half of your face at a time
  • can look a little dry on my nose (but that could be my skin type), so I usually finish with a damp sponge to perfect the look

IMG_20170620_124321-2

So that wraps up this review! I really like this foundation – the coverage is there, and it lasts me all day long. In the future, I will look for a more mattifying formula, but I can guarantee I’ll repurchase this down the line. It is a staple item to keep in your collection!

Have you tried this foundation? What are your thoughts? Do you agree/disagree? Are there any other foundations I should be seeking out suitable for my skin type?!

Carli Bybel’s $100k Goal for Cambodia

“It may have been small, but I made my contribution.”

IMG_20170402_153229

So if you haven’t heard, Carli Bybel is launching her own makeup line, called Pranava Beauty. BUT FIRST, she released four bracelets in hopes of raising $100k in a month to present a number of young girls in Cambodia with scholarships to help them further their education.

The secret’s out – she did it!

I have a newfound respect for Carli, because now she isn’t just a YouTuber. Which is already a full-blown 24/7 job. She stands for something much larger than makeup, and that is someone looking to inspire the world, and not just by speaking, but acting on it.

Her first release on her website are the Charity Bracelets, which stand for: hope, energy, balance and serenity. The bracelets retail at $20.00, and shipping is $4.95 (if I remember correctly). The bracelet shipped quickly and arrived fast as well, and that was after thousands of people pre-ordered before the shipping date.

I chose serenity – which “comes when you trade expectations for acceptance.”

IMG_20170331_175358

I think these bracelets have great meaning behind them, considering you are helping girls in another country receive professional education. And it’s a great reminder on your wrist to keep yourself in the right mindset. Not to mention, it’s stunning AF.

IMG_20170402_153301

I thought the price point was on par for these bracelets (similar to Carli’s affordable eyeshadow palettes), and was sold after watching her YouTube video introducing the brand and what it stood for.

Are you a Carli fan and did you buy one of these as well? What are your thoughts?! I’m interested to hear what other’s think.. outside stalking the YouTube comments on the video hahaha

Ride or Die $5 Liquid Lipsticks + SWATCHES

“I’m lookin’ at you, Wet n Wild.”

IMG_20170402_151716

Ooookay. I’ve been meaning to dive into these magnificent lippie products for awhile now. Let me just start by saying…

THESE ARE FIVE DOLLARS.

Do I need to say anymore? No, probably not. The Wet n Wild MegaLast Liquid Catsuit Matte Lipsticks are sweeping the drugstore shelves. The color payoff is outstanding, the lasting effects are all day, and the formula is very comfortable. I do not consider these liquid lipsticks tacky to the touch, and they glide on beautifully after one or two coats. It feels like I’m wearing nothing. I wouldn’t go so far as to say they dupe the Too Faced melted matte lipsticks, but they come pretty damn close.

The shades I have: Rebel Rose, Nice to Fuchsia, and Berry Recognize.

First up we have Rebel Rose, a deep pinky nude perfectly paired with any makeup look.

Second, we have Nice to Fuchsia, a brighter/bold fuchsia color that adds a pop of color to any neutral eye look.

Lastly, the third color is Berry Recognize, a deeper berry (almost vampy) lip color that adds a bold look.

PROS:

  • incredibly long-wearing
  • intense color to make as bold of a statement as you desire
  • decent shade selection ranging from nude to bold/vampy (13 colors)
  • comfortable formula that lasts through eating, drinking, and a day of errands
    – Can I just say Nice to Fuchsia lasted me through an entire all-you-can-eat-and-drink brunch full of mimosas, pancakes, chips and guacamole, and more drinking
  • $5

CONS:

  • I have none, except that I don’t own every color by now!

I think everyone could benefit from buying at least one shade in this range. I hope Wet n Wild keeps these forever and expands the range so we can be blessed with more options to #slay our nights out.

Did you like these? Did you hate them? Are there other drugstore products similar to these for a similar price? Please let me know so I’m not missing out!IMG_20170402_151816

Magical Makeup Monday: L’Oreal Infallible Blend Artist Sponge

“We need to have a serious talk about this sponge.”

img_20170304_145437
$7.99

Beginner, mediocre, professional MUA… you need the L’Oreal Infallible Blend Artist sponge in your life. This sponge is so squishy, yet firm enough. It has a large surface area, but the pointed end helps precision blending. This is just a PERFECT sponge. I really don’t know what else to say! Other than go out and buy this (or order it online, cause they are like.. all sold out in stores). Meh.

Special shout out to Casey Holmes on YouTube for recommending this $$ saver. #blessed to have her in our lives.

Below is a picture before and after dampening my blender, to show how much the sponge expands with water:

This sponge blends out foundation/concealer beautifully. I have not been able to put it down. I am a complete newb when it comes to using a sponge to blend my foundation, but this has been a game-changer for me, and I expect it to be like that for others too.

I don’t particularly notice that this sponge absorbs a lot of product, so I’m thankful it distributes makeup evenly across my face. For the price of this, what a great dupe for the beauty blender!

Has anyone else tried this sponge? Is it your holy grail, or should I try out a different one?

Magical Makeup Monday: Mini Ulta Haul

“How do I still have money leftover on my gift card?”

img_20170212_160656

I finally gave in and went on my first Ulta haul since receiving a gift card over the holidays. For me, this means typically means skincare and lip products (admittedly). However, I have a couple other various products in this mini haul as well. Below are the products I intended to get, and did indeed purchase, and my first impressions for you!

The big-ticket item I’ve had my sights set on for a couple months now was The Body Shop Tea Tree Skin Clearing Clay Mask. I am soooo excited to finally get my hands on this, as I’ve heard marvelous reviews on the benefits and results others have found in this face mask. I don’t have particularly troublesome skin, but I definitely have problem areas I’d like to target with this mask. The first few times I use it, I will try it all over my face. However, if it starts to disappear quickly (as it was not particularly cheap), I may just use it to target my problem areas. Full review to come, as I am highly anticipating this product.

img_20170212_154357
$17.00

To no surprise, my next item is also a face mask, though much more affordable. I may or may not be slightly obsessing over skincare recently, but whatever. Better than spending my $$ on drinking, no? Anyways, I have particularly oily skin and have been hoping to find something to combat shine that I can add to my skincare routine. Anytime I’m in the drugstore, I find the same Freeman’s face masks. Alas, Ulta had more variety when I visited! I picked up the Freeman’s Apple Cider Vinegar Clay Mask + Scrub. This is meant to, “instantly tone, purify, and mattify for a flawless complexion.” This face mask works one of two ways:

  1. You can use it as a daily cleanser by massaging onto damp skin and rinsing it off after you use it.
  2. OR you can use this as a face mask by applying to dry skin (after already cleansing your face) and letting it dry for 3-5 minutes, but no more than 10 minutes. This is the way I intend to use this mask.

*note: I couldn’t find the link to this! The closest I found was the Freeman’s 4-in-1 Apple Cider Vinegar Foaming Clay Mask and that is not what mine is.

img_20170212_154450
$4.29

My third item is my final skin product, and that’s the Soap & Glory Hand Food cream. I bought this on a whim while waiting in line to checkout (as most of us do tehe). This is the sample size, and actually my first Soap & Glory purchase! I have high hopes for this and did use it last night, waking up with refreshingly softer hands. I am one of the many people whom suffer with dry hands in the winter, and this hand cream has the potential to be a savior of mine. Did I also mention it’s probably one of the best scents I’ve ever smelled?

img_20170212_154800
$4.00

My final two products are both from the Essence brand, and that is their clear eyebrow gel and lip liner in Satin Mauve. I am new to lip liners, and have just began to branch out. I’m excited to try this liner as I feel it is a good affordable starting place for pencils. The color pairs perfectly with nude/pink lipsticks, and I’m excited to report my findings with this. Is it kiss proof? What lipstick does it look best with? I will report back!
Cost: $1.99

The eyebrow gel is to tame my brows in between waxing! Admittedly, I still go back to my hometown to get my brows done (as I am not yet willing to trust anyone else with them). So, the result is clear brow gel in hopes that it will tame them until I find the time to go home and clean them up! Tried this out today and it held them down perfectly, making them appear much more groomed than they are. Love the application and the price point is unbeatable.
Cost: $2.99

Let me know if any of you have tried these products! I am always open to new suggestions and thoughts to various skincare/makeup routines.

Facial Friday: Yes To… Face Mask Edition

“What a cute and unique idea. Yes to carrots, cucumbers, tomatoes, and the rest of the veggies!”

img_20170122_140650
So these are really cool! Love the packaging and love that they sell all of these individual packets so you can try all of their products. I’m not sure how old/new the Yes To brand is, but I’ve heard a lot of hubbub surrounding them recently, and wanted to try each of these pictured above for myself. To be honest, when I go into Ulta or Target in search of these, I can’t seem to find any more than the three I’m going to review.

For clarity, I picked up the Brighten & Condition Argan Oil mud mask, the Calm & Soothe primRose Oil mud mask, and the Clear Skin Detoxifying Charcoal mud mask. All three are mud, well, obviously. So I have yet to try the paper or sheet masks. I am a huge fan of mud masks, they’re my favorite! Naturally, I reach for these before a peel-off or sheet mask.

First I tried the charcoal mud mask. This was my favorite. The mask dries really nicely, and smells great too! I left it on for 15 minutes, as instructed, then washed my face. First I use water to loosen the mud, then go in with a warm damp washcloth to rinse the rest away. This mask contains .5% salicylic acid, which I kind of worried about (as all sensitive-skin people would), but this did not irritate me at all! In fact, I saw an improvement in bumps overnight and attributed it to the acne-fighting ingredient. I’m pleasantly surprised to see they have this in a tube, so I will be purchasing that soon.

Then I tried the argan oil mud mask. This one was my least favorite of the three. It does not ever really “dry” on your face, so you’re left rinsing away a slithery, slimy mess. It was hard to wash off so I started scraping if off my cheeks with my nails. I usually go in with my Tarte maracuja oil after using a mask, but that was a mistake here, as the argan oil mask is mean to hydrate your skin. I’m already naturally oily, so this combo packed way too much moisture for me. I might recommend this to dry or mature skin, but not to those with a shiny t-zone.

The final mask I tried was the primRose mud mask. I wrote about the previous mask before I tried the primRose, and I can confidently say this mask was my least favorite. It was a very similar consistency to the argan oil mask, as I had a difficult time washing it away. It’s very thick, and never dries either. This time, I did not moisturize at all after using this mask, because it does such a great job at hydrating the skin. The reason I like this one the least? The smell. At first, I thought, okay this won’t bother me it’s just a little funky. No, not at all. Mid-way through I wanted to wash it off but figured I could stick it out. Finally after washing it off, thought I’d be rid of the scent, wrong. It lingers afterwards, and it’s the kind of scent that almost makes you want to gag (I know, I know, but I want to be honest and wouldn’t write it unless I thought that). I’m not someone who will ditch a mask due to the smell, but the fact that it’s slimy and never dries down, I don’t feel like it does much for my oily/troublesome skin. Then the smell on top of that? Nooo thanks.

Have any of you skincare lovers tried these masks yet?! Thoughts? Is there a certain one you’re going to repurchase? Should I try another kind in the Yes To brand? I welcome any and all thoughts below!
