Bullet Journaling for Beginners (BuJo 101)

“I’m just a girl trying to get her shit together.”

So you want to start bullet journaling – right? You’ve come to the right place. Thanks for joining me. Please grab a cup of coffee, soda, or sparkling water if you’re a gal on the keto diet (lol – me). But really, I just want you to get cozy and hang out because this is a long post. I didn’t realize how much content I’d have for this until I started photographing my bujo.

I had a lot more put together than I previously thought, but that means a lot of juicy material for you to read through and incorporate into your bullet journal!

Let me start by saying that a friend of mine recommended getting a bujo and I was immediately intrigued. Organize, track your monthly calendar, and have the ability to record your thoughts (similar to a diary) all in one. Sign me up.

First, I purchased my journal here on Amazon. You’ll want to buy one that has dots in it for lots of creativity – and also opportunities to use your ruler for satisfying straight lines. It was $14.99 with prime shipping and came with a ruler, emoji stickers (which I have yet to use), and nice pages that barely show the ink marks of my pen through them.

It starts with my table of contents, where I lay out each page for ease of flipping through.

Next are the pages: birthdays and what makes me happy. I haven’t entirely filled in either page but it’s a work in progress! When you have something new to include, flip here and fill in more content.

Now we have a daily mood tracker and a list of books to read. Also yet to be filled out, but here you can see how I set up those pages. To track your mood you can use symbols, color-code it, or the emoji stickers. It’s up to you and your creative juices!

Up next are two pages I consider helpful for my mental health: a list of things I can control and self care tips. These help keep me in check on a daily basis and remember that the small issues controlling your emotions are just that – small issues. And frequently beyond your control.

Next is where I want to record my travel goals – we all have them! Later in the year I will be adding Jamaica for my honeymoon and Nashville for my bachelorette trip.

Yee-haw.

On the next page are chores to live in a clean house. I list out the daily chores, weekly, and monthly. This helps keep me on track to clearing out the apartment as well as tidying up on a daily basis.

For the next part we are getting into the current month: August! Here you will see my daily gratitude list. I LOVE THIS LIST. It helps me find the good in every day, because there is good in every day. Write it down – one thing or two. Prove to yourself you can spot something good in every day and at the end of the month you’ll be surprised at what you see.

Next is a calendar overview of the month, with a notes column along the side for random tidbits.

Lastly, my daily logs (notice I accidentally wrote ‘vlog’ LOL)! Here you can write a little more to what each day involves, and track your emotions here as well. The idea is to keep things short and sweet, and be honest. If it’s a bad day, it’s not a big deal – at least you can acknowledge that.

So that’s my bullet journal! It is a work in progress but I take it everywhere and try to keep up with it throughout the day or at least once a day at nighttime as an overview of how my day went.

Do you have a bujo? Are you thinking of starting one? Please lmk what your thoughts are and how you like it if you already have one!

Empties! Skincare Edition

“If I ignore the fact I have a new empties post monthly,
that means I’m not spending $$, right?”

Here I am. Back again. WITH. MORE. SKINCARE. EMPTIES. I would say I’m ashamed, but truly I am not, so, here we are. I will confidently type on this keyboard to let you know what I thought of six skincare empties and if I will be repurchasing or NAH.

Want the tea? I’m about to spill it.

First up, one of my favorites in the bunch, Hey Honey’s Detoxifying mud mask (retails for $54.00).

I originally reviewed this product here, so you can see I’ve been on the Hey Honey skin-detoxing train for awhile now. I admit, yes, it’s pricey. That will take a few paydays before you want to pull the trigger.

Snapchat-261111581

HOWEVER – H O W E V E R…… I love it. I notice an actual difference in my skin/pores the next morning. It also doubles as a mild exfoliant with the tiny beeds in the mask. It doesn’t smell the greatest, but IDGAF, it’s so good. This will leave you with softer skin and less gunk in your pores. And it’s mild. It doesn’t dry down to a stiff mask on your face. I do not notice any irritation. I will absolutely be splurging on the larger tub of this as I cannot live without! It’s one of my holy grail face masks.

Wanna save 10% to lessen the blow? I have a Hey Honey discount code: type “ksloves10” at checkout Image result for angel emoji

Next up is my second favorite item, and that was a DIY body scrub I made in a class led by Nyambi Naturals, a Philadelphia practicer of homegrown therapies. We used calendula-infused grapeseed oil, lavender and mint essential oils, and sugar to create this magic and I reached for this every other day for the two weeks it was good for.
*It expires after two weeks since there are no preservative ingredients – ALL FRESH.

This made my skin feel incredible. The formula also includes castor soap, which cleanses the body along with exfoliation. I freaking loved this stuff and need to invest in a double-boiler to make more! Lmk if any of y’all would be interested in a DIY post on how to make this body scrub.

The next product has become another holy grail of mine and that is the Clinique Take the Day Off cleansing balm (retails for $29.50).

Previously, I’ve reviewed this product here and you can read all about my infatuation with it. Yes, I have repurchased and intend to do so again and again. It does not irritate my skin or break me out and cleanses my entire layer of makeup before I go in with my face wash.

Next we have TWO Mario Badescu products (not surprising, tbh) and the first one is the Facial Spray with Aloe, Herbs, and Rosewater (smaller bottle is $7.00). This spray is awesome and is a cult-favorite for a reason. Sets your makeup in place all day, smells refreshing, and takes away the powdery look of your finished face. I have previously repurchased this setting spray and will probably continue to do so – I have yet to find one better and the price is ON POINT.

My second Mario Badescu product is their Whitening Mask ($24.00 for 2 oz.)

This is ideal for all skin and aims to reveal brighter and smoother skin beneath the surface. I love all MB face masks. I think they do wonders and pack a punch – not to mention, they’re based at an affordable rate. I would use this mask where I experience discoloration and dehydration (mainly forehead and cheeks), but I will be repurchasing and trying this out under my jawline where I have recently been dealing with adult acne (oh, the joys).

My last product is the Body Shop’s Tea Tree Oil for treating blemishes (normally $10 but on sale for $6 as I write this).

This product WORKS, I’ll say that much. I think I need a new bottle and will always keep this around for evenings before big events when I feel a blemish coming on. You want to stop an under-the-skin blemish before it even makes its way to the top? Rub this in before bed.

Although, I recently learned from a facial specialist that your body absorbs a lot of the toxins you slather on top of it (think: face wash, masks, spot treatments) and so for this reason I am slowing my roll on the tea tree oil – I used to go ham on this stuff. It’s time it takes a backseat but will I be repurchasing for those stubborn blemishes? Hellz yeah.

So those are this month’s skincare empties. Hope you enjoyed! Found something new, or reminded yourself of one of these products you love and haven’t used in awhile? Lemme know in the comments! I love talking through skincare products.

7 Hair Care Items Worth Your Coin

“Who doesn’t love a good hair care recommendation? Or seven?”

Today I’m writing alllllllll about HAIR-CARE-BABY. What’s good? We’ve got shampoo, conditioner, a deep conditioning mask, and hair oil. And then dry shampoo to eliminate your hair oils (lol). Good thing today is pay day because I’m about to unload a healthy recommendation of 7 good products for your hair care routine worth your money, honey.

Let’s start at the beginning of all hair care routines – shampoo and conditioner. These two were made for each other. The Paul Mitchell Forever Blonde shampoo ($18.00) and Forever Blonde conditioner ($19.00) are a match made in heaven. I’ve already emptied each of these products once, and repurchased, and I’m here for them.

These products are a step up from average hair care, without the unreasonable price tag. I believe they are WORTH the $$ and the value is spot on. Both products take great care of my blonde strands and don’t strip my hair of its natural oils – leaving it healthy and conditioned.

I’ve spoken once about these products in this post if you fancy further praise!

Next, to really up your hair care game, bathe your hair in the Briogeo Deep Conditioning hair mask ($36.00). This is worth. every. single. penny. I probably use this deep conditioning mask once weekly or at least every other week. I’ve had it for seven months and I might now just have emptied half of the tub. That is a butt ton of deep conditioning treatments for under $40. Worth it, worth it, worth it. I live and die by this stuff and will continue to repurchase it.

Sticking with the Briogeo theme (which I’m obsessed with), we are moving onto their Rosarco Milk Leave-In conditioning spray ($20.00). I will spritz this all over my hair, post-shower, focusing halfway down my strands and the ends. Then I comb through to distribute it. This leaves my hair silky soft and when I wake up the next morning it actually looks and feels a bit more repaired. It’s a miracle worker and I will again repurchase this one.

I reviewed these two products previously and one more from the Briogeo line, see those thoughts here!

Okay this next one is a hair oil that I just DIE for. It may be my favorite of everything in this post. The Marrakesh Oil ($22.99) in the original scent. OH. MY. LANTA. It’s so good. Smells amazing, performs amazing, I just cannot get enough and will buy endless bottles of this product. I use one pump in the palm of my hand and coat my hair from the middle of the strands to the end (same as the conditioning spray). I then leave my hair in a little low bun to soak up the goodness for 20-30 mins before bed where I let me hair out of the bun.

This is the ultimate product for me. If you take anything away from this post, let it be this oil. And also the hair mask.

NEXT UP – I wanted to throw this product in here because it’s good and does its job and also smells like a dream. The Chi Thermal Protecting spray ($6.50 for a small bottle) does its job but also acts like a hair perfume for me. It smells incredible and it adds heat protection to your hair before going in with a blow dryer, straight iron, or curling wand. Solid product and worth the money – which in my opinion isn’t expensive!

Lastly, and certainly not least, is yet another holy grail product. Did anyone really think we’d make it through this post without BATISTE DRY SHAMPOO holy hell this is a godsend. I can find the large size for $8.99 in TJ Maxx or Marshall’s so get in your car now! Dry shampoo has absolutely changed the game for me. It can turn fresh curls into a three-day look. It’s true that your hair needs trained to be less oily (and for me tbh that took like 6 months), but this will get you there. It soaks up oil, smells great, and is an absolute must for me in the years to come. O B S E S S E D.

So those are my hair favorites. Take ’em or leave ’em but I hope you enjoyed yourself and gathered some new fun recommendations. How many of y’all already use some of these?! Lmk below.

Morphe 25B Palette – what’s good?

“You can create several looks using this palette
without reaching for another.”

The 25B Bronzed Mocha eyeshadow palette from Morphe will cost you $18.00 and that means each shade is less than $1/each (there are 25 shades). The value is phenomenal for what Morphe charges and I think it’s fair to say this is worth Image result for clap emoji your Image result for clap emoji money Image result for clap emoji honey.

We’ve got lid shades, transition colors, six shimmer shades, and a handful of deeper browns/purples to create that smokey look for a night out.

With so many colors in the “neutral” range, I will admit they could’ve dropped five shades that look pretty similar to each other. I think it’s slightly pointless to include a double of any eyeshadow color in the same palette – but hey, maybe someone somewhere is using those two shades separately and then what do I know, right?

Back to this palette having enough shades for an entire look – it’s really a one-stop-shop! And for that, I love it. Imagine going away for a weekend and wanting to take just one palette – the Morphe 25B is your guy. You can get several looks ranging from light and fresh to dark and smokey. Their shimmer shades are gorgeous and provide a stunning “pop of shimmer” to the eyelid.

I am thoroughly impressed with this palette and I must admit, it does kind of tempt me to purchase their other palette of this size: the 25A Copper Spice palette. For less than $20 you just cannot beat it and the quality is there! I love Morphe’s eyeshadow palettes and I’ll happily continue to purchase.

Tropical Vibes Bridal Shower

“They brought the tropics and beach theme to Philadelphia!”

My Maid of Honor and bridesmaids did an incredible job with my bridal shower – BOY DID THEY EVER. We’re talking mimosa bar, pineapples as centerpieces, a Polaroid camera station, and it doesn’t end there.

Will you be throwing a bridal shower soon or in the near future? Do you and the bride have a love for all things T R O P I C A L? My MOH has the hookup.

I’ll start at the beginning – the first thing you see walking into the backyard (tysm to my future mother-in-law for lending her home for this Image result for heart emoji ) is the MIMOSA BAR. Who doesn’t love a good boozy & brunchy bridal shower? Answer: nobody. So get your drank on and don’t forget some sort of alcohol.

AND THEN – all things white! (obvi). The white balloons, “bride” letters, and table linen made for a nice crisp white background, with the pineapple centerpieces and black and white photos standing out as accents.

Can we talk about the Polaroid station? This was ADORABLE. The photos were printed within seconds and make for a great keepsake for your mama, mother-in-law, aunt, cousins, friends – EVERYONE basically. An affordable option is to definitely include print-outs of the couple. They’re fun to walk around looking at and can be conversation starters!

After that – games! All women come to the bridal shower expecting to play some sort of trivia proving they know the bride or the groom better than anyone else. Bring on the competition as you’ll have some relatives ready to compete.

A super special thank you goes out to my Maid of Honor, bridesmaids, mother-in-law, and my own mamma for all that went into this gorgeous day. I will never forget it and it was incredible to be surrounded by so much love – and have all of my favorite people in one location.

Want to throw a tropical-themed bridal shower? Here were my favorite parts:

  • pineapple centerpieces (which everyone can take home – YUM)
  • MIMOSA BAR – because, well… alcohol
  • GAMES for everyone to show how much they know the bride/couple
  • the Polaroid station! easy and quick keepsake to take home so you remember the shower!

I Emptied *another* Six Skincare Products…

“What am I doing with my life besides
working and buying skincare products?”

LOOK WHO’S BACK with another empties post. Ya girl right here. Idk about y’all but I love when someone posts an empties blog post – I am all about the reviews and finding out if people want to repurchase something. It feeds some kind of drug to my mind like, “Oooo wonder if that face mask made a difference” or “That toner put in WURK but is it worth the price tag?” Lemme click and find out.

So I hope that’s what you came here for! Cause I’m about to give it to ya.

First up, the Pixi Glow Tonic – can be found at Target for $15.00 (tho you can get a better value for the 250 ML for $29.00 just FYI).
I love this stuff – it’s a solid product. Might not be life-changing, but for some reason I can’t get my hands off it. I began using this product and kept a four-week diary on how it changed my skin. If you’re interested in those results, I’d suggest reading that!
Would I repurchase? Already have!

Next I had a sample of the Mint Pear C Your Youth Vitamin C serum – $39.00
This product was good, but I’m currently loving another serum that I’m preparing to write aboutImage result for prayer emoji
My thoughts on this are that it’s not bad, and the price is relatively decent for other competitive face serums on the market. I do love the feeling of applying this to my face as it sinks into my skin and traps in the hydration. I wake up in the morning and still feel the product.

Would I repurchase? Actually, maybe (had I not found this other serum).

First Aid Beauty Deep Cleanser with red clay – $24.00
I looooooooved this cleanser while I had it. It’s rather luxurious and created a thick lather on the face, which I loved. My skin was left feeling refreshed, clean, and smooth. It was a great feeling. I’d use this about 2-3 times a week (as I didn’t want to overdo it). If you’re still interested, I’d recommend checking out the full review so you can decide for yourself if it’s worth it!

Would I repurchase? Yeah! For sure.

Tarte Maracuja Oil – travel size is $16 and large size is $48
I have raved about this godsend before and I’ll rave again. It’s amazing. Hydrating without being sticky/greasy, sinks right into the skin, provides a deep hydration that lasts through the night and into the next day. I rave even more in my full review for those wanting additional benefits. And then again in “The Best of Ipsy.”

Would I repurchase? Already have like 3 times!

South Mane Under Eye Gels – pack of 3 for $9.00
I think this product could be easily looked past and fall into the “underrated” category. These were a good, solid set of eye masks. They were hydrating, stuck fairly well to the skin (tho they will slide around if you’re walking all over or dancing to Drake), and you’re left with a smooth and moisturized under eye area. You are supposed to keep them on for 30 mins, which is a bit much. But honey make yourself a cup of tea, turn on Friends for the 1,000,000th time and relax!
Now that I go investigate the price of these online, I think I’ll buy a pack or two. Well worth the price and I enjoy the process as well as the outcome.

Would I repurchase? About to.

Lastly are my trusty ol’ Kirkland brand Daily Facial Wipes (makeup remover) – they’re selling 150 on Amazon for $24.99
These are a solid choice and won’t steer you wrong. However… however – if you have sensitive skin you might not like how “rough” these are. I find they kind of tug at the skin but they do cleanse away your makeup. I go in with a face wash after using this anyways, but they do a good job removing the first layer. Are there better ones out there? Sure. Will these get the job done? Yes.

Would I repurchase? Already have – thank you, Costco.

So those are my skincare empties! Anyone else have the same ones? What are your thoughts? Are you intrigued? Have you tried any? Let me know below so we can chat!

A lil’ Boxycharm Review – May ’18 Edition

“Happy Birthday Boxycharm and thanks for the 6th product!”

Assuming everyone here knows what Boxycharm is, let’s move on with the review. Oh wait, you don’t know? Okay okay back it tf up then. Above is Boxycharm’s website, linked and waiting for your click! ~ and no, they have no idea who I am so if you click it’s not some shady way of making $$ lolz (seems to be what everyone freaks out about) ~

BUT – if you gander on their website you’ll see they are a monthly makeup subscription with 4-5 full sized products for $21/month (fee includes shipping – YAH BITCH). Pretty similar to Ipsy, but with full sizes as opposed to travel sizes. For anyone that might be interested, here was my last Ipsy review before switching to Boxycharm and in this post I explain why I made the jump.

Alright enough of that — on with the May 2018 BOXYCHARM REVIEW, HUH

  1. Pretty Vulgar Ink Gel Eyeliner in Black List – sold for $24
I DID NOT EXPECT TO LOVE THIS THE WAY I DID. And I am not blowing smoke out my ass. I’m not even an eyeliner person! I don’t even know if it LOOKS GOOD on me! Yet this is the creamiest, smoothest lil’ potted eyeliner I ever did use. It is sooooo flippin’ easy to apply and looks matte and black. I am a huge fan and as long as it doesn’t dry out on me, (and if I ever use it all) I would definitely repurchase.
    Would I repurchase? Hellz yeah.
  2. CoverFX Blurring Primer – sold for $38
Okay, I liked this, then I didn’t and then I did again.
    Final consensus: it’s gucci.
For some reason, I thought it was drying at first. Looking back, I wonder if the beginning of the product was slightly dried out. Now that I am about 10 uses in, I like this primer a lot! I would compare it to the Benefit Porefessional as far as consistency. It does a great job at smoothing my pores and foundation/concealer apply beautifully on top of it.
Would I repurchase? This is tough. I have been using the Soap & Glory One Heck of a Blot primer and loving it as equally if not more. For that reason, I don’t think I’d spend $38 to repurchase this one.
  3. Beauty Creations Matte Lipgloss in Kiss Me – sold for $4.99 but says $10 on Boxy’s website #confusing

This was… also #confusing. Matte. Lipgloss. Contradicting and also mutually exclusive. This was so sticky. Once you put it on, it definitely wasn’t going anywhere. But oh.. so sticky. If I am putting on a matte lipstick, I at least want to be able to go out and enjoy my night. If you’re looking for lasting color over comfort, this is for you.
The color is gorgeous, I must say. And once it tries down baby she’s transfer-proof! So I’d say it’s up to your preference – however, an easily accessible comfortable drugstore liquid lippie for $4.99 is also the Wet n’ Wild cat suit lipsticks.
    Would I repurchase? Pass.

4. PUR Cosmetics – The Sculptor Palette – sold for $30

img_20180607_1741103258878133412277148.jpg
This makes a great staple eyeshadow palette for anyone whose complexion is not deep enough to use this as a contour kit. However, I could probably find all of these shades in my collection and don’t need to spend $30 for this palette alone.
Granted, the highlight is G O R G E O U S and the pans are huge, so if these shades work for you – honey the quality is there.
Would I repurchase? Nah – as I have these shades elsewhere.

5. & 6. Aesthetica Pro Brush Series ($45) and Face Brush ($27)

img_20180607_1739379038548380656868711.jpg

These brushes are nice! I have tried the Fine Tipped Eyeliner Brush which works beautifully with the Pretty Vulgar gel eyeliner (no surprise there, I see what you did Boxy). The spoolie is nice – works like your typical spoolie would.
The Face Brush I actually like using best for bronzer! It’s a little on the flimsy side but I like how it builds up the color without overloading product onto your face.
Would I repurchase? The fine tipped eyeliner brush – yes. I love the way it applies gel eyeliner and I see myself using it over and over again.
The face brush – probably not as the E.l.f. flawless face brush is a good dupe for loose powder and my SOHO Pro Powder brush is queen of bronzer (only link I could find was to eBay – strange. I remember buying this at TJ Maxx). It’s just like.. not broke so why fix it, ya dig?

So that’s the May box! Thoughts? Suggestions? Questions? Lol. No but seriously this was a solid box and made for a good Instagram video 😉

Let me know what you thought of these products if you’ve tried any!

Obsessing over the Carli Bybel Deluxe Edition Eyeshadow Palette

“Having the original palette did not stop me from purchasing the deluxe edition.”

See a little tutorial I filmed using this palette on my Instagram here!

I bought Carli Bybel’s deluxe edition eyeshadow palette from BH Cosmetics for $22.50. I actually think I snagged this while it was on sale for an even lower price, but paying $23 for this does not break the bank by any means.

For those of you that have already purchased her original palette, I’ll link my thoughts on that one here! Otherwise, ignore this paragraph because I believe that one has sold out and discontinued (wahhh).

HOWEVER – for you guys/gals who may not have known about the original palette in the first place and are still looking for a versatile, easy-to-use eyeshadow palette, this one may suit you perfectly. There are transition colors for days, shades for warm and cool-toned looks, and highlights to shine to the Gods.

With 21 different eyeshadows and highlighting shades, there is something for every eye color. This palette allows the option to build up an eye look so gradiently and effortlessly. The shadows have a ton of pigment and blend easily enough for me (a total “wannabe” makeup user). I would recommend this palette to any of my friends.

MAIN HIGHLIGHTS:

  • versatility with one palette to create multiple looks
  • shadows are pigmented and blend easily for us beginners
  • highlight shades are POPPIN’ so that’s an additional benefit to get highlighter shades in an eyeshadow palette
  • loads of transition shades and colors to build up an eye look
  • extremely affordable price for 21 different colors

I absolutely adore Carli Bybel and am happy to support her by purchasing her eyeshadow palette – or both. If you have an opportunity to snag this puppy, don’t sleep on it! It is such good quality at an affordable cost.

Way to go Carli – you’re a queen on YouTube and a queen of makeup.
